After hyperspace stopped working, we moved with Luca the spirit’s help. We reached the Pokapoka colony in Pokapoka Flower Field Prime, and it was being attacked by another nation.
And apparently the attackers are the Church of Yakumo Stargate.
This religion was started when a pirate ship crashed on a primitive planet. No way.
The pirates lived there for four centuries, making it skip from the iron age to nuclear fission. In Japanese terms, it’s like they were technologically pushed from the Yayoi period of 300BC to the current Reiwa era in just four centuries.
This religion proclaims ‘love thy neighbor and thy laser pistol’, but also rejects usage of spirits and magic.
After many twists and turns, they were established as a religion that worships technology and rejects all magic.
“FTL communications have been restored in a limited capacity, and it seems the Church of Yakumo Stargate acquired means to jam hyperspace. Also, the Livaceno Empire has announced they are launching a campaign against the Church of Yakumo Stargate…”
“That’s just annoying. What is the empire going to do if it gets that technology?”
“The reason for the campaign is that the third prince was abroad and is currently missing…”
“They’re pissed~.”
“Ah, that will do it.”
“I believe fifty years ago they launched a campaign against the Church of Yakumo Stargate because the eleventh princess was killed, Genma.”
“Yeah, that happened before I was born too. So they’re not going to destroy them?”
The Church of Yakumo Stargate has controlled a star system for centuries, so there’s no destroying them. Of course, the same goes for the Federation of Star Systems. They’ll campaign, but no star system nation will send their precious destroyers.
“How will the Galactic Credit Union Alliance react? Hyperspace jamming will do more than just have a bad effect on the economy.”
“They condemned the Church of Yakumo Stargate, and some subordinate organizations are working together with star system nations, the empire, and the federation.”
“So the Alliance is going too~. But they won’t destroy them~.”
“They’re not a religion you crush and normalize…”
“It is no good.”
“Well, that doesn’t matter to boss, does it? Let’s worry about what’s ahead of us.”
Yes, it’d be one thing if we could make money, but we can’t collect scrap in a war… And a regular army is strong… I’m hesitant.
<Aren’t you going to war?>
“No… If I can’t make money, it’s rough.”
“You can hunt space beings and pirates~.”
“We could take a break for a month after restocking on food. I feel like there won’t be any work outside of the war.”
“Ah, true… Perhaps we could do that…”
“But we could go to Mish something to hunt space pirates, gather metal, and sell it in a colony with a shipyard. I think the prices of metal will go up.”
That’s also an option. Speaking of shipyards, it would be Akul in To Akul Prime, Lumomo Second in Brefilmora Prime, or Nyenyabinsk.
“Nyenyabinsk sounds interesting~.”
“Where was that~?”
“I think I’ve heard of that…”
“Ah, the one the cat prince that went to Van’s planet said had a shipyard, correct?”
“Ah, there was that! So much happened that I forgot.”
“The blackout in Lumomo Fourth happened after that. I have compiled information into videos, so please check them to see if I may upload them to the video site in the Pokapoka colony.”
The titles are I destroyed a space pirate base, Shiitake’s melee, I became a hero of Lumomo Fourth, the giant octopus battle, and the spinning spirit Luca.
<You’re spreading information about me.>
“Is there a problem?”
<It’s wonderful.>
“I see…”
I don’t really understand the standards of spirits.
“We have stuff like broken information terminals, so Akul would be a safe bet. We bought all sorts of stuff there.”
“The fixed information device turned into an objet~. At least the server isn’t broken.”
“I wanna buy a new small information device, because mine broke.”
“Mine as well!”
“Then I want to stop by Pokapoka, but…”
We’re waiting to get four torpedoes in Pokapoka. We told them we just need the materials because we have an alchemist crafter, and they agreed. Apparently they’re prioritizing the army.
But their dock suffered a lot of damage in the destroyer attack, so we can’t use it directly. A large transport ship is loading supplies, and from there, containers are being distributed by armors to mercenaries and the army.
I received twenty thousand puni for the results of the battle. I said I destroyed a destroyer on my own, but they said I was helped by mercenaries and the army.
The reward is lower during a state of emergency because they supply food, guided missiles, and do repairs, but I have to be careful or I’ll take a big loss.
That said, it’s not like they can just announce a state of emergency any time they want, and the Mercenary Guild will investigate afterwards.
A state of emergency is pretty much only declared when a colony is falling. It was a little lucky because during the blackout in Lumomo Fourth, the stoppage of power meant the people that could declare a state of emergency were silenced.
“Well then, we can’t use hyperspace, so we’re on defensive standby for the next eleven hours. Everyone, go rest, I’ll nap in the cockpit.”
“I’ll go too~!”
“I’ll perform repairs in the cargo bay. Come, Kori!”
“Then I’ll also nap in the cockpit…”
“No lewdness!”
“I will also perform repairs in the cargo bay remotely. What will you do, Luca?”
<I will sleep in a star and recover my strength. After that, I will repair the spirit path… It was fun, come see me if you’d like.>
The chandelier spirit turns and shines, we all wave, and it disappears.
