I’m unemployed but I’m exploring the dungeon again today – Chapter 165 – The Abyss XXXVI (Illusion forest XXIII) – Part two

Fuuma notices this and uses magic to defend, but the magic activated on the spot lacks power and precision, and the monster rips it apart with a swing of its claw.

All Fuuma’s magic does is slow it down a bit.

It gets flustered and tries to protect Hinata, but won’t make it in time from there.

I wish Hinata at least reacts and runs, but Hinata, under the care of the strong Fuuma and Totaro, doesn’t move before the overwhelmingly strong monster and its deadly claws.

The claws approach, looking like they’ll instantly kill Hinata.

That horrible feeling is averted in the worst way.

Hinata is pushed from the side and escapes the deadly claws.

But in its place…

“Gaha.”

Number Two, the weakest here.

His arm is cut as he protects Hinata, and his throat and body are ripped.

He doesn’t immediately die, but he’s in a lot of danger. If he’s not healed right away, he won’t make it.

If possible, I want to cast Healing Magic right away, but the situation won’t allow it. The lion monster isn’t stopping, and is moving towards Totaro this time.

The weakened Totaro can’t even move well, so it can only watch.

The lion has a terrible sadistic smile on its face, and it’s clear it likes picking on the weak.

It stretches its claws, but blocks an attack from my staff, as I finally catch up.

Yes, blocks it. It was walking on all fours, but now it’s on two legs and using the other two as arms.

Now that I’m near it, I can see its face full of sadism up close.

But that doesn’t make me waver. More importantly, I need to buy time.

I face the monster that blocked my staff, infuse it with magic energy, and hit it with a gust.

It doesn’t have the power to kill, but it can’t react to the magic, and gets blown beyond the lake into the forest somewhere.

Number Two!?

He suffered heavy wounds because I was away.

I turn to go heal him right away, and see Fuuma and Hinata already doing it.

But it feels like the wounds are healing slowly. It’s not like their magic is weak, but the wounds just won’t close completely.

Even when I join, the result is the same.

I feel angry, asking why the healing isn’t working well.

I should be cool-headed here, so I force myself to be and calm down a little. Then I use Trace on Number Two.

I can tell the lion monster’s magic energy is mixed up in him. That’s what’s opening the wounds and trying to kill him. It’s like a curse.

I try to remove it with Healing Magic, but I can’t reach it, it’s mixed with his own magic energy.

What do I do, what do I do, what do I do!?

I rack my panicked mind, but can’t find an answer. All I can do is delay it with Healing Magic.

Meanwhile, Parallel Thinking makes me see a threat out of the corner of my eye.

The lion monster is back.

I sent it flying far back, but that makes sense considering its speed.

Still… It’s the owner of the magic energy, so will it go away if I kill it?

I tell Fuuma and Hinata to take care of Number for a bit.

I use the staff’s ability to control plants to get every plant around here under my control.

To be honest, I don’t understand all the abilities of this staff. I’ve tried a lot, but I’d need the Appraisal skill to uncover everything. But I did learn a new ability while fighting.

I can control plants and share senses.

It runs fast between trees, and I can barely feel its presence. I can’t detect it with Spatial Grasp, so I have to rely on my eyes, but that’s hard in the forest.

So I use plants as sensors to get a grasp of its moves.

It’s moving fast through the forest. I can clearly feel where it is.

And it got behind me.

It’s just a coincidence that I can react.

The movement of the air changed, and I felt something was off for some reason.

I turn around, and see the lion monster approaching.

Why are you behind me!?

Its presence is still in the forest, but the monster is behind me.

I move with surprise, and stop its slash.

A strong impact runs through me, and I’m unable to stop the momentum as its claws rip through my shoulder and leave a mark on the ground.

It applies more force to the claws, like it’s pushing to tear me apart. I get through it, but something comes from the wound. It’s not a physical thing, it’s the lion monster’s magic energy.

I feel it encroaching on me, and a chill that makes me want to throw up.

This is what’s in Number two.

But it won’t work on me.

Magic energy encroachment is my specialty.

I don’t eject its magic energy, I draw it in, crush it with a lot of my own, and encroach on it.

It didn’t expect its magic energy to be taken, and quickly moves away from me.

I can’t let such an obvious opening get away, so I use the Speed up and Explosion magic circles to release a rock spear.

Before, these two magic circles wouldn’t have been enough for this monster. But the staff boosts their effect, and I took in magic energy, so it can’t stop my magic now.

There’s a tch sound, and the roar of an explosion.

It dodges the spear just in time, but there’s no way it’s okay after that explosion.

Incidentally, the mansion and field aren’t okay either. The shock wave of that explosion sent half of them flying.

Dammit, Totaro will have to rebuild it when it’s okay.

“Gaaah!!”

I hear a rage filled roar.

It’s the lion monster, of course.

The dust clears, and it appears with blue blood pouring from several places. Its smile is gone, and it has the angry face of a wild lion.

It suits you.

But I’m angry too!
