“How does it taste?”
Someone comes by, as I chat with Hikari, Mia, and Kotori.
It’s the demon called Ou. He has a smile on his face that can be described as that of a friendly grandpa.
“Not bad. It’s tasty.”
“Yes. It’s tasty.”
“Grandpa, why didn’t you let me have it before!?”
Kotori’s answer is the only one that feels off, but it’s one of those things where if you care, you lose.
More importantly Kotori, weren’t you brought here as a prisoner of war in the first place?
“Hohoho, that is good to hear. But I need to speak with this young lad, so can I borrow him for a bit?”
Hikari and Mia look this way with concern, but I am a guest of the demon king, so I don’t think they would try anything.
And it’s a good opportunity to check something.
Ou then starts walking silently, without checking if I’m following.
The hallway reminds me of the castle in the Dragon Kingdom. It doesn’t have a whole lot of decorations, but it’s spotless.
This is the demon king’s castle, so I pictured stuff like traps here and there, and ominous stone statues that jump out to attack all of a sudden, but that’s not the feeling I’m getting.
When I look outside through a big glass window, I see well tended plants growing, with flowers of multiple colors blooming.
“Are you surprised?”
“Can you tell?”
“Most otherworlders who come to attack are surprised. Some whisper that it’s not what they pictured.”
“That too, but doesn’t this place turn into a battlefield? I feel like there would be more marks of destruction left. Do the demons repair it?”
“I see. We don’t fix it directly. There is something like an auto repair function.”
He tells me more about it, and apparently when you supply magic energy to the throne, the castle repairs itself.
It’s particularly efficient when there’s a demon king. It repairs not just the castle, but the area around it too.
“Why does it have a function like that?”
I kind of want it. I need to investigate how it works.
“Well, all I can say is that it has been like this for a long, long time. We’re here.”
I enter a room after him, and see a demon I recognize.
“You’re here?”
“Of course. I don’t deserve to be there… And I heard the saint Mia was coming.”
Adonis. The demon who tried to kill Mia in the Holy Kingdom.
“Don’t be nervous. We won’t try to harm the saint. Will you, young Ado?”
“…I will do as you say. I don’t want to make the demon king sad either.”
“There you have it. You can relax.”
I’ll do as he says. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but they invited Mia knowing she’s a saint, so I want to imagine they won’t do anything to her.
Did I mess up? But it seemed like this demon called Ou wanted to talk to me and me alone, so…
“You can apologize, young Ado. If you can’t, go to Ignis and wait for a while.”
He says, basically throwing Ado out.
“Let us get to the main issue. Do you have the dragon king’s fang?”
“Yes.”
“May I see it?”
I do as he says, and bring it out.
“Yes. You can also use Appraisal, correct? Then you know its effect.”
Dragon king’s fang. A weapon that uses it can kill even a god. Processing difficulty, maximum.
“Hm. I sense magic energy. Did you do something with it?”
“I tried to make a weapon, but it wasn’t working.”
I’ve been trying to make a dagger with the Creation skill, but it hasn’t worked so far.
Normally when something fails, the materials used are gone, but the dragon king’s fang just goes back to how it was before.
That’s why I could try it multiple times.
“I see. And do you think you can do it?”
“If I can level up my skill! Is what I’d like to say, but it doesn’t seem likely.”
The Creation skill hit level ten the other day, and it still ended in failure.
“Can I see how you do it?”
I nod, and try to make a dagger with the Creation skill. The blade itself would be made out of the fang, and I use ore for the handle.
As I infuse magic energy, the dagger slowly takes shape, but there’s a sound of something shattering just before it can complete. Then the dragon king’s fang goes back to how it was, and the ore disappears
“…It always ends like this.”
“I see. I think the materials used are not up to par with the fang.”
He says as he starts looking around the room for something.
I didn’t notice it before because Adonis took my attention, but… This room is pretty dirty. I guess the fact that I didn’t notice it until now says something about me too…
There are things messily piled on top of each other, and the shelf is stuffed with books. There are more piled up on the floor, because I guess they just didn’t fit.
I feel like if I wanted to advance any further, I wouldn’t know where to step. But the same doesn’t go for Ou, who weaves through the gaps with precision.
“Oh, here it is. Yes, this and this should withstand it.”
He says as he hands me a lump of mithril and a magic stone. The magic stone shines with a blue light, and I can feel the magic energy in it.
Casting Appraisal tells me it’s a magic stone from a wyvern.
“Can I use these?”
I ask without thinking, and Ou silently nods.
