About the case of destruction flags being demolished after a nichiasa loving otaku was reincarnated as a villainous student – Chapter 12 – I’ll do this job with all my heart and soul!

“Ahh… The weather’s nice. It’s perfect picnic weather, yes.”

The weekend came, and Yuugo went along with Melt to the road they would be patrolling, a road to the east of the academy called Marmint Road.

Yuugo looked around, as he felt the comfortable warmth of the shining sun, and let out a sigh of wonder at the beautiful sight.

There were grassy fields on either side of the stone road, and the spring weather along with the blue sky made him feel bright enough to want to start whistling.

The people they passed by also had smiles on their faces, and Yuugo was thoroughly enjoying his first time seeing the fresh scenery outside the academy.

(This is a nice sight you can’t see in a modern society. It seriously feels like I’m in the world of an anime.)

For Yuugo, who lived in modern day Japan with miscellaneous buildings all over, this beautiful sight was something he could only see on the internet or television.

He was also an indoor type, so he did not travel a lot, meaning he had no idea where to go to see this kind of sight in the first place.

They were there to work, but there was no need to be on edge all the time, since there was little to do in this quest to patrol a road, and Yuugo figured he could relax to a certain extent. And when he looked at the other side, he saw the scenery there and spoke.

“Uoh, awesome…! It’s a steam train…!”

He saw a black train run along while ejecting white smoke from its chimney, and looked on with shining eyes as it tickled his heart as a boy.

The train itself was interesting, but the fact that it spewed silver smoke meant that it was not burning coal. Surely it was using some sort of technology specific to that world, thought Yuugo, as Melt smiled at his reaction.

“You don’t even remember magic trains? Well, I never saw one before coming here either…”

“Really? So railroad tracks aren’t spread too far?”

“This area is near the capital, and the Luminous academy is an important institution, so they pass here. I’m from a small city in the countryside, so most people there travel by horse-drawn wagons.”

“Eh… So this area is special…”

Yuugo nodded, as he listened to Melt and watched the train enter a tunnel.

It seemed obvious, but Yuugo was once again faced with the thought that he really knew nothing about this world. And as she also watched the train enter the tunnel, Melt spoke to him loudly.

“You’ll ride a magic train some day, so you can look forward to that. Actually, you probably already have, but since you lost your memory, you can still look forward to it as a new experience, right?”

“Hahaha, you’re right! From that point of view, losing my memory isn’t so bad! Still… This job of patrolling a road doesn’t give us a whole lot to do.”

Yuugo mumbled what he thought to Melt, after the train left and they looked on at the road that had little traffic.

When Yuugo heard of patrolling, he pictured himself defending passerby from attacking monsters, but all they really had to do was periodically observe the areas they had to patrol, and answer some questions from passerby.

Then again, they were students doing a short-term part time job, so it made sense to not have them do something too big. Yuugo thought this as he stretched his arms, and Melt spoke while pointing at the tunnel where the train went.

“Apparently there are people who accepted the same quest as us patrolling on the other side of that tunnel. I’m sure they have just as little to do.”

“Eh, really? Well, that’s nice actually. The fact that we have nothing to do means that this area is peaceful.”

“That’s true! And whether we’re busy or bored, the pay is the same! And in that case, I’d rather it be peaceful so we can make money easily!”

Said Melt, before opening her mouth widely and letting out a big laugh.

Conversely, it would be pretty bad if they suddenly got roped into some sort of trouble in their first quest. And so, they settled on the fact that having nothing to do was just fine, and continued quietly chatting, but… It was common knowledge that such a conversation was what they called a flag, so…

“Uoh!? W-what was that noise?”

“Oh? I’m being contacted…? What happened? It’s not time for them to contact us yet…”

Yuugo was surprised by the sudden sound of a bell ringing, and tried to figure out where it came from, while Melt looked at the shining blue crystal in the bracelet on her wrist.

Yuugo thought back to when they were leaving to do their round, and their boss handed them that and said it was to keep in contact. And then, as Melt finished talking to a guard standing by at a nearby station, she spoke with a serious expression.

“Yuugo, they say that train we just saw hasn’t reached the station. They tried contacting it, but there’s no response, and the people on the other side haven’t seen it leave the tunnel, so something might have happened in the tunnel. They want us to go check it out.”

“The train? I wonder what might’ve happened . Did they run out of fuel?”

“I don’t know. Let’s just go to the tunnel and check. Once we figure it out, we’ll contact the person at the guard station again and wait for instructions.”

“Yes, let’s go.”

Yuugo agreed with Melt, and they went to the tunnel as instructed to check on the magic train.

At this point, he was a little nervous about this incident suddenly happening, but figured it couldn’t be that serious. However…
