“Good luck Rush!”
“Blow that scum away!”
“Thank you! Thank you! I promise! With the power of your encouragement, I will beat Yuugo! And I will liberate Melt from his grasp! I guarantee it!”
Declared Rush strongly to the students that filled the duel arena, and they continued to cheer him.
They were strangely fired up, but conversely, Yuugo’s side was quiet, as Melt bowed to the brothers with a gloomy expression on her face.
“Yuugo, Phi, I’m really sorry. It’s my fault this happened…”
“Don’t worry about it, you didn’t do anything wrong. It’s because I’m hated in the first place, and because those people won’t listen.”
Yuugo smiled awkwardly as he thought that before it was Phi, when he fought Marcos, and now it was Melt who was filling that role. He tried to cheer Melt up, and looked at the students who were there to see him and Rush fight.
There were a lot more compared to the previous duel, and everyone was cheering Rush while wishing to see Yuugo defeated.
He was not a flawless scumbag, but to see such a one sided crowd… Yuugo could only laugh, and see this terrible scenario with distant eyes.
He tapped the anxious looking Melt and Phi on the shoulder, and spoke with a relaxed tone, that made it hard to believe that he was the one who was about to go fight.
“I said it’s all right. He has more people on his side, but… This time I have two people on mine! That’s twice as many as before! Twice! If I have more people who believe in me, that means I’m stronger than before! And if I was already the strongest anyway, there’s no way I can lose!”
“…Yes. You won’t lose as long as I believe in you. I understand. I believe that you’ll win again!”
“That’s the spirit! You really are the greatest little brother ever!”
Yuugo said as he pat his brother’s head like always, with a gentle smile.
Melt saw Phi look at his brother with a trusting smile, and the bond between brothers made her feel a little warm in the chest.
“…Well then, it’s time. Off I go.”
“Good luck, big brother!”
“We’re pulling for you! We believe in you, Yuugo!”
Yuugo headed to the battle field, with Phi and Melt’s encouraging words behind him.
There were way fewer voices cheering him on compared to Rush, but… They were enough to plant the seed in his heart that he was not alone.
He swung his left arm, that had the bracelet, a little, clenched and opened his left hand, and after finishing his little warm up, he faced Rush and his longsword.
“I’m ready any time. You?”
“No problems. Yuugo Clay… With the feelings of those who hate you on my back, I will bring you down!”
That’s a pretty bad way to receive people’s feelings, though Yuugo, as he heard Rush’s provocations, smiled awkwardly, and exhaled.
As Yuugo thought that if those were the feelings and hopes he was carrying, he’d much rather have just those two pure cheers with him, the voice of the student who was acting as referee echoed.
“The duel between Rush Winhelm and Yuugo, who was disowned by the Clay family, is about to begin! The duel will end when either is unable to continue! Any complaints!?”
“No.”
“Of course not!”
The audience laughed at the introduction that seemed to be making fun of Yuugo.
Melt and Phi were upset, but after the referee heard from both participants, he announced the start of the duel.
“Well then, vow to fight fairly… The duel is on!!”
“Blaster, henshin!”
“Let’s fight! Here it goes, Windhorme!!”
Both activated the abilities of their magic items.
In the middle of putting on his black armor, Yuugo saw Rush in the distance swinging his sword, and instantly dodged. And where he was standing, a sharp wind passed through.
He just barely avoided it, and after composing his posture, he cooled his head and tried to surmise the abilities of his opponent’s magic item based on what he saw.
(Well, that was clearly a wind blade. Like a kamaitachi…)
An ability that turned the user’s magic energy into blades, and unleashed them as the sword was swung… It seemed similar to Melt’s magic item on a fundamental level.
But each attack was stronger than hers, so he needed to perform the action of swinging his sword.
Once Yuugo figured that out, it was simple. He worked out an easy way to deal with it, and quickly put it into practice.
“Fuh! Ah! Ho!”
As with special attacks of tokusatsu heroes, attacks with things like flames or water flew along with the trajectory painted by the sword being swung.
Swinging sideways released a sideways line, and swinging vertically released a vertical slash, and they flew his way.
Yuugo figured it was not hard to predict and dodge the attacks if he checked the position of the sword and where Rush’s body was facing.
Those attacks were useful to deal a final blow, and Yuugo had seen again and again heroes unleash such attacks on opponents who still had energy left in them, only for the opponents to dodge or destroy said attacks. Yuugo learned from their mistakes, and dealt with the attacks by slowly closing the distance.
(I don’t need big attacks. I just need to close the distance and get close enough that he can’t swing his sword. And once I’m there…!)
Sometimes he would leap, sometimes step to the side, and while it was taking time, he was getting closer.
Yuugo felt he was almost there, and victory was near, but when he took another step forward… He felt a sharp wind hitting his body.
“Hnwha!?”
He was thrown not back, but to the right, and rolled on the ground. And after killing the momentum, he got right back up.
Yuugo then checked the wound on the left side of his armor, and tried to comprehend why an attack came from a direction it should not have, and…
“Fuhahahaha! Confused!? You really thought you could approach me so easily!?”
“Ah? What’s that?”
Yuugo watched as Rush laughed loudly and proudly… Or rather, he watched both Rush and the other Rush with his eyes wide open in surprise.
There were two identical Rushes standing in front of him, and both held a sword and laughed mockingly.
“Who said I only have one magic item? I have Windhorme and Avatar Rings! I’m not like you, who are behind the times and only has one magic item!”
He said as he showed the five rings on his left hand.
Rush laughed scornfully along with himself as he looked at Yuugo, and released even more magic energy to further demonstrate his power.

Hope the enemy won’t be let off easily. Seriously hate MC’s letting their enemies go, only for the enemies to plot and scheme
This is the chronic problem in most shounen Japan novel / manga. The jp authors, are sometimes coward who don’t want to punish the villain characters
Reference time
“And if I was already the strongest anyway, there’s no way I can lose!”
A little subtle but that tagline is a reference to Banjou Ryuuga/ Kamemn Rider Cross-Z from Kamen Rider Build.
Ooohh… That’s why Yuugo almost lost huh… (It’s Joke commonly from Chinese KR fan community where Ryuuga is one of the 4 (Heisei) Kamen rider who lost the fastest)
why is this so retarded.
This is Henshin hero tropes, where ideology trumps reality. So turn off the reality and embrace your childhood ideology.
There goy to be a mana limit right? Otherwise why would anyone not have chain mail made out of those rings and spam shadow clone jutsu
