“Gobeh!?”
The moment he stopped talking, an armor clad arm broke through the birdcage and came out.
Regen peeked at the magic item and was punched in the face. The unexpected impact made him throw the magic item in his hand, and after it shined in the air and was completely broken, the people inside it were released.
“All right! I escaped!! The Detective at Dawn is no joke!”
“Yuugo! You did it!!”
Yuugo held up his left arm and yelled as he landed, and the others ran to him.
The guards secured the children held captive with him, as Regen got up while holding his face and spoke as if he could not believe what happened.
“I-it can’t be…! How did you get out? You shouldn’t be able to destroy the birdcage from the inside…!”
“It looks like you enlisted a bad technician. Apparently you didn’t realize it, but there was damage left unrepaired on the inside, with cracks connected to the outside.”
“W-what!? I paid good money to that old man, and he was sloppy like…!”
“Well, I only noticed it when Jinba’s arrow grazed it. It was thanks to you, Jinba.”
“…!”
The arrow was definitely not for nothing.
That attack led Yuugo to realize there were cracks that were not repaired in the birdcage, declared Yuugo proudly about the action Regen mocked.
“Regen, you were cornered by the persistent Deka detectives that won’t allow you to harm the angels of this city! Jinba carried Thomas’ will, and their soul that was not erased by the passage of time cornered you!”
“Nu, guuh…! You! I’m gonna catch those kids again!! I’m not gonna let merchandise get away!”
Not only did he fail to erase the old humiliation, but it passed through time to hit him again, making him groan with frustration.
His underlings chased the children to catch them again, but…?
“…Hou? What a funny thing to say. Do you really think you will lay a finger on those children with us around?”
Said Marcos as he held up his shield, and his defense and that of the guards prevented the members of the evil organization from laying a hand on the children.
Regen clenched his teeth over losing not only his magic item, but also his hostages, and Jinba yelled at him.
“Regen! You lost! Stand down and give up!!”
“Ku, kukuku…! Gua~hahahahaha!!”
The situation had reversed completely. Regen’s trump card that was his hostages was lost, and the guards seem to have the full advantage.
They saw Regen laugh loudly, and thought the sudden reversal made him desperate, but… Regen turned towards his enemies again, and spoke with a tone of anger and joy.
“I honestly wasn’t expecting this, but… I’m the boss of all of these underlings. You really think I would head to where I knew guards were waiting without any insurance?”
“What…!?”
“Don’t just look at me, look at the kids. Notice anything?”
Regen’s provocation made it clear he had some sort of trick up his sleeve.
Yuugo did as he said and looked at the children, and told Jinba what he noticed.
“Jinba! There aren’t enough! The freed children don’t match the number on the list!!”
“What!?”
Yuugo saw the list of captured children the previous night when he visited Jinba, and realized there were fewer present than were on the list.
As they realized they saved about half, meaning the other half was being held captive somewhere, Regen spoke triumphantly.
“I didn’t expect my birdcage to be destroyed, but it’s not the only one. When it was being repaired, I had another magic item made with the same ability! That’s where the other half is!”
“He had a spare…!? Where’s the other birdcage!? Tell me, Regen!”
“It’s not here. My trusted number two Gimoul has it somewhere else. Just in case this happened! He should be rampaging to his heart’s content right now! Hahahahahaha!”
Jinba and the other guards looked flustered as they learned of the existence of a second birdcage and group.
The revelation that another group rampaged somewhere else while they gathered in the Water Thanksgiving Festival shook them, and Regen continued.
