I was reincarnated on an island where the strongest species live, so I will enjoy a peaceful life on this island – Chapter 2 – Strolling on the island

“Mister Todo Arata, you are dead.”

“…Ah?”

“A lot happened, so I’ll just get to the end. It was god’s mistake, meaning mine.”

“God?”

“So basically, I can reincarnate you in another world, and grant you any request you have. And if you don’t request anything, I’ll be kicked out of the divine realm! Now go, ask awaaaaay!”

And so, I got all that unilaterally pushed onto me, asked what I could, and reincarnated here.

Apparently I got here in the morning, because it’s been a while since I saved that girl, and the sun is close to reaching its highest point.

Once it does, the girl finally wakes up, and starts moving while getting up, like she’s checking her own body. It looks like she’s not suffering from any after-effects, and there’s nothing wrong with her body.

“…Arata, right? Hum, thank you for saving me.”

“Yes, I’m just glad you’re all right.”

She looks kind of strong-minded, but once she gets up, she thanks me with a bow right away. She’s pretty honest despite how strong her eyes and tone are.

I’m glad she immediately understood why she’s wearing different clothes too. Her clothes are dry by now, so she’s putting them on.

Obviously I turn around while she changes, but even the noise of the clothes rustling is enough to make my heart race a little.

She hands me my clothes back, and now I’m wearing the same thing I was before too. Some clothes that I don’t really understand but look like the sort of thing an adventurer would wear.

Now that I get a better look at her, I notice that her white cloak makes her deep red hair look even more red, like it’s burning.

It’s not as shiny as it could be, because of all the sand on it, but she’s still far and away the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen.

She feels like the daughter of a noble, but why did she wash up on a shore like this alone?

As I think about this, I end up staring at her.

“My name is Reina. I was on my way to explore a certain island, but…”

She tells me she is a top class mage, and she was on her way to an island called ‘Faraway Island’ as ordered by her king. She met a furious storm on the way, and her boat sank.

Reina thought she was going to die there, but found herself waking up here.

“You saved my life, Arata.”

“Yes… By the way, in order to save you, I…”

I remember the artificial respiration, and my face gets hot.

Maybe she doesn’t care, maybe she didn’t even notice, but I can’t keep it a secret that I stole the lips of a young maiden.

“…That’s fine. You saved me, so why would I complain about that!?”

“A-all right! Thanks for saying that!”

Despite what she says, her face is also getting hot, and she’s turning her eyes away. There’s no doubt that she’s agitated about it, but I’m really thankful that she understands.

We stand here fidgeting with our faces bright red like two innocent schoolchildren, but it doesn’t take us long to feel like we need to stop.

“By the way, do you live here, Arata?”

“No, I…”

How should I say this? It’s not easy to say I’ve met god and was reincarnated from another world. But I also don’t know a thing about this island, so anything I say is going to be a lie.

“I was just sort of here before I knew it.”

“What?”

“Haha… I don’t get it either.”

Reina is looking at me with a suspicious expression, and sweat runs down my back. If I say anything too vague, she’s going to ask more questions, and as I think about what to do, Reina’s expression loosens a little into a small smile.

“Well, everyone has their own circumstances, I guess. I know at the very least that you saved me, and that’s enough.”

“…Thanks.”

“I should be thanking you. By the way…”

Reina seems a little embarrassed, and she starts fidgeting again, while turning her eyes away.

I can catch a glimpse of her healthy looking white legs when that short skirt flutters, and I can’t help but glance there a little.

“Y-you didn’t do anything weird while I was unconscious, did you?”

“O-of course not!”

Maybe it’s because I feel guilty for looking at her thighs, but I get flustered while I respond.

I don’t see anything that looks like a boat on the horizon, so I’m guessing Reina was the only one to make it.

Neither of us know anything about this island, so there’s no point in standing here on the beach. We’re done introducing ourselves, so we head to the forest made up of tall trees.

This island seems pretty big, because the scenery in front of us doesn’t change even after walking through the forest for quite a while.

It wouldn’t be good if the island where I’m going to be living from now on was small, but it’s also a problem if it’s so big that I can’t see the whole thing.

The ground on this lush forest is rough and uneven too, so it’s harder to walk than if it was flat. I feel like I would normally run out of stamina pretty quickly here.

I actually see sweat on Reina’s forehead, and it looks like she’s pretty tired.

“How about we take a break?”

“Ahh… Ahh… Yes, let’s.”

She’s about to sit on a fallen tree, when I remember what she’s wearing and strip from the waist up. Then I lay my clothes on top of the tree, and sit next to them.

“…”

“What’s wrong? I don’t know if you’ve fully recovered, but you’re probably not back to your full strength yet, so you won’t last if you don’t rest.”

“Hum, thank you.”

It looks like Reina understands my intention, and sits down on my clothes.

It feels to me like Reina is dressed like a mage in a videogame, but overall, it feels like her defensive power is low. If she sat down like that, her beautiful legs would be hurt by the tree.

“You really have a lot of stamina.”

“Yes, even I’m surprised.”

“Why are you surprised about yourself?”

Back in my old world, I was always busy with work, never exercised, and my body was heavy.

Now my body is so light that it feels like it’s not mine. It looks like this ‘strong body that won’t get sick or hurt’ that I got from god is supporting me a lot in terms of stamina too.

“Ahh… Still, this island feels a little strange.”

“Does it?”

“Yes. If the ship that I was on sunk, it couldn’t have been very far from this island. And yet this huge island is unknown to the kingdom… Could it be…”

Reina starts thinking and muttering to herself while looking around. Tree, dirt, wolf, dirt, tree, wolf, wolf on top of a big rock, wolf, wolf…

“Wolves!?”

I quickly get up and look around, and see gray wolves drooling while they surround us. They clearly see us as prey and want to eat us.

“R-Reina!?”

“What’s gotten you so panicked?”

“Look look, wolves! And ones that eat people! We need to run!”

“Run?”

A daring smile forms on Reina’s face as she slowly gets up. Her red eyes become sharp as she slowly raises her hand.

In a second, a strong wind with a faint azure color starts to blow where she stands, making her red hair and white cloak flutter.

“Wha…!? I-is this…!?”

“Reina Mistral, one of the seven great mages, won’t run from mere beasts.”

Reina then moves her hand, and sharp wind blades match her movements as they assault the wolves.

They don’t have time to escape before being cut in half, and depart from this world without even realizing what happened to them.

“…M-magic?”

I say in surprise, as I see a superpower that didn’t exist in my old world.

“Well, that’s about it.”

Reina shines beautifully as she lifts up her hair with a proud smile on her face.

But behind her there is a wolf that was lucky enough to survive, and it’s silently creeping up on her.

“Watch out!”

“Eh?”

I put my arm between Reina and the wolf that jumped at her, to stop it from biting her throat. And then I feel an impact.

“Kuh!”

“Arata!?”

“It… Doesn’t hurt? Uh?”

I was nervous and scared of the pain that was about to come, but it’s not what I expected. It’s like being bitten by a baby who doesn’t have their teeth yet. And the wolf in front of me is crying as its teeth fall apart.

“Oh, your magic from earlier destroyed them.”

“H-hey, are you all right!?”

“Yes, perfectly fine.”

I was scared for nothing. So what do we do about this?

We can’t just ignore a wolf that just bit me as hard as it could, so I’ll punch it as hard as I can.

“It’s not like a punch from a complete amateur like me is going to do much, but… Take this!”

“Gyah!”

I give the wolf a good punch as payback for biting me, and then, it flies high in the air like I just struck a golf ball with all my strength. It keeps going until eventually it’s out of my sight.

“…Ah?”

“Eh?”

I look where fist is pointing, and the wolf isn’t anywhere near it anymore. There’s no doubt about it, the wolf that just flew away is the same one that bit me.

I guess I severely underestimated the ‘strong’ part of the ‘strong body that won’t get sick or hurt’.

“…God, I think there’s such a thing as overdoing it.”

I look up at the sky, where the wolf once was, and whisper while thinking of that careless god.
