I was reincarnated on an island where the strongest species live, so I will enjoy a peaceful life on this island – Chapter 36 – The true ancestral comes at night

If you asked me what kind of person Wilhelmina Vermilion Worheim is, I’d say she’s kind of a pain.

That imposing form floating up there looking down towards us gives off the feeling of a seasoned warrior, despite her youthful appearance.

“Hey Arata, why are you standing between me and the bathing area?”

“Because we can’t have you destroying its walls again.”

“…Tch.”

Unlike regular vampires, this true ancestral can be active during the day without any issue.

I keep telling her to come during the day, but she always makes excuses, like saying she’s sleepy, and instead always comes at this time of night.

Apparently she’s interested in Reina, and she purposefully comes when she’s taking a bath to start some sort of romantic comedy scene between us.

We’ve won every defensive battle so far, aside from the first night, but it’s getting kind of annoying lately because she’s trying different things.

“I always say this, but you can’t do that.”

She told me before that monsters that live long lives stave off boredom by putting their lives on the line.

Suzaku the divine beast said something similar, so maybe it’s just in their natures.

I brace myself to block her attacks, and she starts moving her eyes to look for an opening. But she eventually gives up and lands.

“Hmph, whatever. It seems we have new people here today anyway.”

“Ah…”

Wil turns Xellos’ way, and he freezes like a frog being glared at by a snake.

He’s probably feeling a difference in their power that’s unlike anything he’s felt before.

“Arata, why not introduce us?”

“Fine, but no picking on them.”

“I don’t know about that.”

She responds promptly as always, but I introduce her to Xellos anyway.

“This is Xellos Grinder. You said you felt presences you didn’t recognize, right? He’s one of the people who arrived on this island then.”

“Ah, I do remember something like that.”

It happened fairly recently, but she acts like she doesn’t really remember it. That makes me feel a little relieved.

She did whisper something when we first talked about them.

‘I see I see… That all sounds very useful.’

I knew things would get complicated when I heard that, so I’m relieved to hear she forgot about it.

“Well then, you.”

“…!?”

Wil just casually talked to him, but Xellos’ body is completely stiff.

That puts a very satisfied smile on Wil’s face.

…She really looks like a bully.

“Did you see that, Arata? That is it. That is how humans are supposed to act. And yet when it comes to you…”

“Well, I still don’t think you’re really scary.”

Honestly, I think she’s kind of a pain, but I think of her as a friend I can speak to casually.

I tell her that directly, and she looks like she’s taken aback, because she looks away from me.

“…Well, I guess it’s not so bad for one person to be like that.”

“Are you a little embarrassed?”

“…Don’t get carried away!”

She vents her anger by shooting a fireball, and I slap it down.

I don’t think that weak fireball would really do anything if it hit me, but I did it reflexively.

“H-hey, Arata, are you all right?”

“Eh? Ah, yes.”

Xellos sounds worried, but that really is nothing to me.

Wil wasn’t serious either. She was just messing around.

“It’s fine, it’s always like this.”

“Although the amount of magic energy I infused into it should probably not be all right…”

“That magic? Always like that? I’ve never seen fire that concentrated…”

Xellos looks at me with an incredulous look on his face, but he’s worrying too much.

The fireball Wil shot out was about the size of the tip of one of my fingers. I’m pretty sure even in my old world, that would just feel a little hot.

“Well, it’s not like him being a monster is anything new,”

“Hey Wil! That’s rude, isn’t it?”

“It really isn’t.”

She responds right away again.

“Still, leaving you aside, this man seems to have proper senses. It looks like I’m going to have fun.”

“You’re thinking of something weird again, aren’t you?”

“I am not.”

She definitely is. She’s looking at Xellos with a nasty look on her face.

“Hey, you.”

“…!? W-what…”

“Let me introduce myself. My name is Wilhelmina Vermilion Worheim. I am a being of the night, a true ancestral vampire.”

“M-my name is Xellos Grinder… The sixth seat of the seven great mages in the continent.”

Xellos’ voice sounds weaker than when he talks to me, but he manages to muster up his strength to speak.

It doesn’t feel like Wil is overpowering him, so he’s probably just being overwhelmed by the difference in their power. I can’t fault Wil for that.

Wil hears Xellos’ introduction, nods, and opens her arms.

“Well then Xellos, welcome to this empty island. I welcome outsiders like you.

That said, today I’m only here to kill time, so I didn’t bring a gift or anything… However…”

She says before pulling a mushroom out of thin air.

“This is a very tasty mushroom that you can pick on this island. You can even eat it raw. I will let you have this one, Xellos…”

“Stooooop!”

I take the mushroom away from the little devil walking towards Xellos with a nasty look on her face.

“Hey Arata… Why are you getting in the way?”

“A-Arata…?”

Wil is glaring at me, looking very displeased, but I know what this mushroom really is.

Xellos is looking at it with an unsure look on his face. He probably assumes from what I did that this is poisonous.

“I will have you know, this mushroom is not poisonous, it’s tasty, and it’s very nutritious. It will make you feel like you’re full of energy too. I’m giving it to this man in good faith to welcome him. Give it back!”

“This is one of those mushrooms that makes you want to ‘do it’, isn’t it!?”

“…”

Wil turns away the moment she hears that.

“…Wait, how do you know?”

“I knew it! Elga warned me about them!”

Him telling me with a serious expression to watch out for these is fresh in my memory.

Elga always feels like a reliable older brother, when he’s not eating at least, but he felt like a different person when he was explaining what these do.

“Did he… Does that ungrateful man not know who pushed him to build that happy family?”

“He’s angry at you because you made him blow past the surely happy steps towards that outcome.”

“…You have quite a way with words…”

“Well thanks.”

Even if he turned out to be happy in the end, those steps are important.

Elga doesn’t look like he regrets anything, but he’s a guy too, and he wanted to go through the proper steps, because it’s all very important to him.

I get how he feels. I’d probably regret blowing through everything to the finish line if I was in his place.

“I guess it would also be a problem for that thick-headed Elga to keep on not noticing how Livia feels about him… But still!”

“…How can you say that with a straight face?”

“Hn? What do you mean?”

“Obviously, I’m talking R…”

Wil doesn’t get to finish her sentence, as many wind blades tear her body apart and it dissolves into the night.

“…!?”

Xellos’ eyes are wide open with shock, but this isn’t anything new to me, so I just turn to where the magic came from.

I see Reina fresh out of her bath, with her face red from staying there too long.

“Why does she have to keep coming here around this time to say weird things!?”

“Because you are so tasty when you’re embarrassed!”

“I’ll give you something tastier, so stop it!”

“Your cooking does look tasty… But this is tastier, so no, I won’t stop!”

Wil’s voice gradually becomes more distant, as Reina glares at the night sky with a frustrated look on her face.

Only the shining stars are there.

“I will come play with you another night. Look forward to it. Hahahaha!”

Wil’s loud laughter echoes around this area, as she disappears completely.

“Hey Arata… If I stay on this island, will things like that keep showing up?”

“I don’t know.. Wil is a special case, but apparently there are quite a few people on that same level.”

“I see… I don’t think I can survive away from you…”

It’s not something I really want to hear from a guy, but it’s natural after something like that happened.

Reina and Merlin are done with their bath, so now it’s our turn.

And so, another night goes by without anything unusual happening.
