I was reincarnated on an island where the strongest species live, so I will enjoy a peaceful life on this island – Chapter 7 – Attack of the super giant boar

Elga says he’s a divine beast with the Fenrir as his ancestor.

I know Fenrir as the very strong monster from Scandinavian myths that devoured the main god Odin, but I don’t know its position in this world.

When he introduced himself, Reina didn’t really react when he said ‘Fenrir’, so it might not be very well known.

It’s not like I know a lot about myths or anything. In fact, I see it more as an ice wolf that usually shows up in video games as a boss.

But he has white body hair and wolf ears and a tail, so I’m probably not too far off.

By the time we return from washing the tableware, Elga is already setting up the map.

Reina is still not used to the pressure exuding from him, so she’s watching from afar with Luna.

“Anyway… This is a map of the divine island Arcadia.”

“Ooh… It’s pretty big.”

Elga looks happy as he spreads the map. Having a full stomach probably has to do with it.

As it turns out, this island is actually large enough that I could call it an island country. It has an elliptical shape in the east and west, meaning it would probably be tough to measure, but it probably has about the same surface area as Hokkaido.

Elga points to where we are now, and then to the south, where the divine beast people live.

“So basically from here to here is divine beast turf. Then this area to the east is where ancient dragons and demon gods live. They don’t get along, but they know a fight between them’s gonna end badly for both, so they only fight sometimes.”

“But they do fight sometimes?”

“Yes, about once every hundred years. It always starts ’cause some hot-blooded youngster causes problems, so the adults watch for a while and then yell at them to end things.”

The word sometimes being used in that context tells me a hundred years to them is not the same as a hundred years to us humans.

Elga also tells me the only ones that really get mad about others entering their territory are those ‘youngsters’, and that the adults are surprisingly rational.

“And here to the west is where the high elves live. They don’t come out of their territory too much, but we divine beasts interact with them from time to time too.”

“Are the people living on this island actually on pretty good terms with each other?”

“Nah. We just know we can’t live if we’re at each other’s throats, and we live too long to be interested in fightin’. And there’s nothin’ new on this island either.

It sounds like these races that live long lives are a lot calmer than I thought.

At first I was worried thinking that this island was full of dangerous, monstrous beings, but it sounds like I’ll be able to live here.

“Elga, I want to live on this island. Where’s a good place?”

“Ah? Are you serious?”

“Yes. I got away from where I lived before because I wanted to be away from people anyway, and that’s how I ended up here. It’s basically divine providence, so I want to stay here.”

Elga looks shocked, but it looks like he understands that I’m serious. He’s thinking about it while looking at the map.

“We’ve never had any humans on this island… Depending on the race, even we divine beasts have some people that think we gotta remove any outside invaders, so it’s hard. The high elves probably wouldn’t like it much either.”

“No, it’s not like I’m asking to live with a group of people here or anything. Just show me a place where I can live by myself.”

“I don’t think I’m gonna find a place where a fragile human can live. You only have a limited supply of food too, right? There’s not a lot of prey weak enough for you to hunt, and you’re just gonna end up being hunted yourself.

Despite his rough way of speaking, I can tell Elga is looking out for me. But he’s misunderstanding me.

I’m sure this body given to me by god is equipped with what I need to survive on this island. If it didn’t and god still reincarnated me in this place, it wouldn’t just be careless, it would just be no good at all.

That said, it’s not going to be easy to prove it. I can’t punch Elga or anything like that.

But as I think about what to do, I start hearing the earth rumble far away.

“What is this noise?”

“It’s… Emperor boar footsteps!”

“Emperor boar!? Yay! We’re eating good!”

Elga sounds a little happy, and so does Luna, who was playing with Reina but is now running this way.

“Elga, what is an emperor boar…”

“Basically a big pile of meat!”

“And it’s really tasty too! They’re hard to find because they’re big, but are usually sleeping underground. That means we can’t get them most of the time!”

Elga and Luna are already drooling, as they look in the direction the noise is coming from, and they look like they’re going to take off running at any minute.

“I see. Do you know what it is, Reina?”

“I don’t want to think about it too much, but it sounds like a monster we have in the continent called great boar. There’s also something above it called king boar.

By the way, king boars are big enough that they mainly prey on things like wyverns, so they’re dangerous enough that the whole chivalric order would be mobilized if one appeared, so…”

Reina stops talking, because at this point, I understand even without her explanation.

I hear trees breaking and giant footsteps approaching. I turn that way, and…”

“That’s a bit too big, isn’t it?”

“…”

A boar so big that I can tell it’s giant even from a distance is running straight this way.

The trees around it are pretty big too, and seeing it crushing them easily as it advances feels like the common sense inside me is being broken.

It’s twenty meters from the ground to its highest point.

Reina is just looking at it with a blank look in her eyes.

“Hehehe, it looks like it just came out of the ground and it’s hungry. Hey Luna, you’re still a kid, so stay back and watch!”

“No way! You adults always say that and take the best parts! Luna wants the tasty parts too!”

These two are still messing around even in this situation.

I guess for divine beast people like them, even a super giant boar is nothing more than prey.

“Heh! It’s survival of the fittest! If you want the best parts, take that thing down before me!”

“All right! Will do!”

They say as they jump out towards the boar that’s still charging this way.

That’s all fine and good, but can they stop it?

They look confident enough that I assume they can hunt it, but if they can’t, the two of us are in danger…

“Wait, they’re not going to stop it! Are they sticking to it and making it more violent!?”

“Wai… If I have to do something about that thing, I’m going to need time to chant…!?”

The emperor boar is headed right for the tent. If we try to run now, I might escape, but Reina is in danger.

“Kuh… I have to…”

“Wait, Arata!? What are you doing? We have to run!”

“Reina, get back!”

I trust the power that god gave me when I reincarnated here.

If I can’t stand up to a sudden danger like this, I doubt I’m going to last long on this island anyway.

The emperor boar is barreling this way with more intensity than a truck. Stopping it would be like stopping a meteorite, but strangely enough, I’m not scared.

“Arata!?”

“It’s all right!”

I can do it. I raise my arms with this conviction in my heart towards the charging super giant boar.

I feel an impact for just a second, but the boar stops without so much as pushing me back.

“Bugih!?”

“How’s that!?”

“…No waaay!”

Time stops for a second, as three distinct reactions are heard.

Elga and Luna, who were sticking to the emperor boar and attacking it, also stop and look at me with surprised expressions.

“Mister, you’re strong!”

“Hey hey… Weren’t you human!?”

“Well then, if I finish it off, the meat is mine, right?”

Elga was the one who said the first one to do it wins.

I don’t know how long it will take for Luna to go back to the continent, but regardless of whether she’s here or not, we need food.

“It’s survival of the fittest. Sorry, but you’ll be nourishment for me!”

The emperor boar is still trying its best to push me, and I clench my fist as hard as I can.

I got ‘a strong body that won’t get sick or hurt’ when god reincarnated me into this world. The punch I gave to that wolf yesterday already proved that.

“I’m taking the emperor boar!”

A fearsome impact echoes through the divine island, as the super giant boar called emperor boar is exterminated.

But just like it happened with the wolf, the emperor boar is sent flying far to the east, as the people here hoping to eat it scream.

“My meeeat!”

“Lunaaaa’s!”

“Ah… I screwed uuuuup!”

“…This is all really messing with my common sense.”

All we can do is yell as we see the boar fly away, not including Reina, who’s eyes look distant as she’s the only one with any sort of sensible views on the matter.

And thus ends another chapter of this rowdy daily life.
