I was reincarnated on an island where the strongest species live, so I will enjoy a peaceful life on this island – Chapter 70 – Let’s decide her name

We go inside Katima’s house, and sure enough, the elder is sleeping.

Apparently Saria is out, protecting the villagers.

“And so, I want us to be the ones to give her a name.”

I’m sitting down crossed legged, and the girl sitting snug between my legs looks up at me.

“My name?”

“You need one. If there’s one you like, you can say it.”

“Name… Yes!”

She was just born, but she understands words so well.

I think she has as much knowledge as you’d expect from looking at her.

“Hn?”

I look at Katima, and she has kind of a solemn look on her face.

“What’s wrong, Katima?”

“Despite everything, Katima naming a great spirit is outrageous…”

“Ah, I see.”

Great spirits are like gods to alfar.

Even if it’s an element they don’t worship, it’s still not good for them to name one.

“Katima doesn’t like it?”

“Uu…”

The girl in my arms looks at Katima with a sad expression.

I guess a sense of trust in Katima grew inside her when they were playing earlier.

“To alfar like Katima… Great spirits are really important beings…”

“You’re not thinking with mommy and daddy?”

“U-uuu…”

Katima looks at me and Reina with a troubled expression.

“I think it’s fine, isn’t it? She’s saying she wants you to think about it too and everything.”

“Yes. And it’s not like it’s definitely going to be the name you come up with that sticks.”

“…All right. Great spirit, Katima will also think.”

“Yay!”

“Oguh.”

The girl raises her arms with joy, and lands a direct hit on my jaw.

It’s not like it really causes any damage, but the sneak attack catches me by surprise and causes a good deal of impact.

…If it was someone like Reina instead of me, that might’ve been bad…

“Daddy?”

“Nothing.”

Everyone on this island is strong, but they’re also surprisingly great at controlling their power.

That’s why they can hold back when they’re with Reina, and with Xellos and Merlin. And apparently their power is restrained on an instinctual level.

As proof of that, before, when Tiltue and Xellos went out to hunt together, she casually smacked him on the back.

I mean, he was sent flying really fast, but he lived.

It was a blow that could normally be deadly, so Tiltue was flustered, but relieved when she saw he survived. But she also thought it was odd.

According to Wil, that’s due to the barrier around this island. It makes it so blows like those don’t kill, unless there’s actual killing intent.

‘Is that also the reason why I was unharmed when Tiltue fired her flames at me?’

‘That’s just because you’re a monster.’

Strange.

“Let’s get back on track, and think of a name.”

“…She is an ice great spirit, right?”

“Right?”

“Yes!”

I ask while patting her head, and she suddenly releases magic energy to prove it.

““…!?””

The temperature in this room goes down all of a sudden, and her body gets cold. Katima and Reina look like they’re a little cold too.

Although I think that’s less because of the temperature itself, and more because of the powerful magic energy…

“Stop stop! It’s getting bad for those two.”

“Eh? Ah…”

She also realizes what’s happening, and disperses the magic energy right away.

Apparently she knows it’s her fault, because her eyes are watering.

“Uu… Sorry.”

“I-it is not your fault, great spirit… It’s all right.”

“Y-yes. You don’t have to apologize.”

“But…”

It’s hard for me to gauge how powerful great spirits are, but Reina has been getting used to this island, and doesn’t suffer from magic energy intoxication anymore when Elga and the others release their magic energy.

Add that to the fact that even Katima appears to be struggling, and I can only guess that she’s pretty strong.

“Daddy…”

“Don’t make that face, they’re saying they’re all right. But you’re strong, so be as careful as you can, all right?”

“Yes…”

I say, but the girl still looks down, and there are still tears in her eyes.

As I sit here wondering what to do, Reina gets up and walks over here.

“See? It’s all right.”

She holds the girl on my lap, and gently pats her back.

“Mommy?”

“No one thinks you’re scary.”

“…Yes.”

The girl holds Reina tightly, looking relieved.

She looks just like a girl being pampered by her mother, and her face turns bright again.

“Ooh… Reina’s incredible.”

“Yes, I can’t do that.”

I do have the power given to me by god to copy all sorts of magic, but… That’s not what that is. It really makes me respect her, because that’s an innate power of hers.

“Well then, let’s really give her a name this time.”

“Yes.”

The girl has taken a liking to Reina’s arms, and she’s now away from my lap.

It’s kind of lonely, but that’s that, and this is this.

“If we’re going with something that represents her physically, how about something related to ice?”

“And something she likes.”

But what? The girl looks excited.

Ice, spirit… As I think back to manga and myths from my old world, Katima suddenly raises her hand.

“To alfar, great spirits are strong, noble, sublime beings.”

“Yes.”

“And so, Katima thought of something. We need a wonderful name fitting of that.”

Katima says as she stands up.

Apparently she thought of something she feels is really good, because her face looks full of pride.

“There’s a certain magic that was passed down by ancient alfar in a history book. Something that can knock out anything in one hit… The strongest ice magic.”

“The strongest ice magic…”

Reina looks at Katima with interest, but all I feel is worry.

“Yes, the strongest ice magic, used by ancient alfar. No one’s more worthy of it as name than an ice great spirit. That magic was called ‘Eternal Force Blizza’…

“Noooo!”

“Nuaaaah.”

Katima doesn’t get to finish saying it, before the girl blows her away with magic energy that feels like powder snow fiercely blowing.

She’s blown past the sliding screen, and is apparently falling down the precipice.

“Ahhhhhh…”

I hear her screams echo, and they stop after a while.

“…”

“…”

“No!”

Reina and I look at each other, both wondering what happened.

And then we see the girl looking a little angry. It seems she really didn’t like Katima’s suggestion.

“Geez, you can’t just do something like that all of a sudden.”

“Mommy… Sorry.”

“Yes, I’ll forgive you because you apologized. But did you hate it that much?”

“…I want a cuter name.”

“I see… You don’t think that’s a nice name for a girl?”

“Yes…”

I leave that conversation up to the mother, and as I think that I need to watch out too, a hand pops out from behind the sliding door.

“T-that was awful…”

“Ah, welcome back Katima.”

Katima’s back after scaling the precipice again, and while her hair looks a little frazzled, she’s otherwise unharmed.

She’s pretty strange too when it comes to stuff like this.

“Arata, you’re saying welcome back like nothing happened, but that was pretty bad.”

“You say that, but you’re tough.”

“You’re the last person Katima wants to hear that from.”

Well, what do you want me…

As I think that, I notice that the girl is now a little wary of Katima. And she was so taken to her earlier too. Kids are pretty merciless.

“G-great spirit… What about that name displeased you?”

“I want a cuter name!”

“Arata! Wasn’t that name cute!?”

“Well, not even a little bit.”

Katima’s shocked.

Was that what she considers a cute name? If it is, I’m sorry to say, but she has to be ousted from this name deciding group.

“T-then you two come up with a cute name!”

“Hm…”

“Well…”

Will we get blown away by Katima too if we propose a name that’s not good enough?

That wouldn’t bother me, but Reina’s a different story.

“Daddy, mommy. Cute name.”

“I’m really feeling the pressure.”

I look at the girl again. She has beautiful silver hair, and blue eyes like sapphires.

She’s being held by Reina, and looks like an adorable snow fairy…

Snow?

““Snow.””

I mumble it, and Reina just happens to say the same thing.

And at that moment, we see the girl shining brightly.

“Snow is good! My name that daddy and mommy gave me is Snow!”

Says the girl with small white wings on her back, and a big smile on her face.

I prefer the name Yuki to Snow. It has the same meaning but sounds better, IMAO.
Thanks.
