I’m going with a big ship big gun doctrine! Take aim at a slow life! ~I was thrown out into space, but I took over a spaceship by coincidence, so I’ll work as a mercenary while playing with the dirt.~ – Chapter 72 – Let’s try to be famous

I’ve been checking out stuff in the free market, and found a guy that deals in meteor beacons. I just wanted to buy audio files, but I was invited for adventures.

I said no, but when the conversation switched to something that could make me money, I started listening.

This eight-legged centaur, Anders, is tall. His legs are thick, and his muscular upper body makes me want to ask if he’s here from the macho planet.

I’m sure it must be tough needing a lot of food when you’re this big…

“Well then, I can sell you the coordinates, but your combat ship can blast away space beings, right?”

“Yes, I’ve been mainly hunting monsters, and came here because they’re now out of season.”

“Furthermore, master became a Grassland one in just a few months.”

Anders scratches his chin, and then speaks.

“Hm, so you’re confident in close combat. Nice.”

“Can you tell me more about this space being?”

“Don’t be in such a rush, newbie.”

Anders starts doing something with his thirteen inch tablet information device, and I see what looks like footage from a ship camera.

The space being I see looks like a big lamprey eel. It’s so grotesque that I hear a little scream from Kori behind me.

The first thing I notice are its rough grater like teeth in its suction cup shaped mouth. Then its huge and thick brown body. It’s bigger than the spaceship scrap I can also see in the footage, and the pulse lasers being fired from Anders’ ship don’t do a thing to it.

I can hear him arguing with a woman, as they flee into hyperspace.

“Does it nullify pulse lasers? With a shield?”

“I got the impression that the mucus on its body means the heat doesn’t get through. There’s no footage, but I fired a missile, and that worked. I’d like to have attacked with saturated missiles if I could.”

“A space lamprey. Judging by the footage, it appears to be smaller than other observed specimen. Its main food is electricity.”

“Creepy~. Let’s not~.”

“Eh, space lamprey… It’s great that mechanical intelligence can look this up on the spot…”

I bet she looks smug, I think, but then I look at Iris and she has a sour expression. So does Kori, as she looks at the small information device, aka smartphone.

“What? What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.”

“Nothing~.”

“Hm? I wonder if the large laser cannon would work.”

Anders’ face lights up, but I’ll have to have Iris check.

“It depends on the output of that pulse laser… but I think it will penetrate it.”

“Hey hey, what are you piloting, a frigate or a destroyer?”

“A mid sized ship with a large laser cannon stuck on it.”

“That’s not something you fly around… Anyway, five hundred puni for the coordinates?”

“Iris, what are the materials of a space lamprey?”

Iris? Why have you gone quiet?”

“…Meat, skin, and liver are traded as food.”

“Who would eat that?”

“I’d try it to see if it’s tasty.”

“I knew it~!!!!”

Anders is bending backwards.

“You’d eat it!? Look at it!”

“You look at it. Everything other than the mouth looks normal and edible.”

“No, even if you look closer… You would? You don’t even know what this thing eats.”

“Iris said it mainly eats electricity, so it doesn’t eat anything weird. I think it would work.”

I haven’t eaten eel in a while… I ate eel rice bowl from the food printer three times in one day and got sick of it. Would this be worth a lot of money?

“Space lamprey qualifies as a delicacy, but master, if we are to purchase these coordinates, we need everyone’s approval…”

“Yes~! I disapprove! Disapprove~!”

“Mu… But the messages are fine, right?”

That’s okay, so I buy them. I save the coordinates, get Anders’ contact information, and we leave.

“So this is a space lamprey. It’s relatively rare, and eats electricity. Apparently it sucks on solar panels and power lines of nuclear fusion reactors.”

The smaller ones are about thirty meters, and the bigger fifty.

“The salable parts are its meat, skin, and liver… They need to at the very least be refrigerated, but frozen if possible. The price itself is not very high, fifty puni per kilo.”

That’s basically like a hundred grams of meat for five hundred yen on Earth… Hm, apparently it tastes like eel.

But frankly, I can replicate it to my heart’s content with the food printer. Thanks to the mastery chef, I don’t have to go that far.

“Hm, I’ve looked it up too, and apparently supplies are limited.”

“I can see scrap in the background, but is it worth going through them?”

“Yes… I’ll tell Anders no unless there’s something special… And what do you three doing something weird over there think?”

Iris is holding a small information device with both hands and filming.

Suzuri is pointing a ring light at me. It’s too bright.

Kori is doing live coverage of my explanation while playing the straight man role.

What are you up to?

“Hey~! We’re staff! Don’t talk to us~!”

“Yes! Point your eyes over here! You three as well!”

Saratha ignores them, Vasilisa waves a tentacle at them, and I guess I wave my hand too…

“Are you really filming?”

“Yes master. We are going to make you the most famous person throughout the galaxy.”

“And live the dream of making money without working~!”

“But is this not work?”

What’s going on all of a sudden? Saratha and Vasilisa are hiding their faces too. Even though they have light makeup today.

“Mu~! You’re beautiful without any~!”

“You know that’s not the problem, right!?”

“What’s with you… Is this being live streamed?”

“Of course not, Genma.”

Suzuri says as she puts the ring light on the floor, and slips into pillows on the couch piled up like a croquembouche. Then she starts operating the monitor with her small information device.

It’s a video. Anders the adventurer! Fear! A repulsive space being shining in the darkness, is the title.

The views are in the hundreds of thousands and the comments in the four digits. I see?

“Miss Kori suggested we also do this.”

“There is surely a lot to work with you, Genma! We should try it! Trying is free after all!”

“If we don’t get the numbers, we can switch lanes for a sexy route~!”

“Don’t do that. Someone stop her.”

“Leave it to me. Even Kori would give up if I squeezed that slime core tight…”

“I’m good at squeezing too.”

Says Vasilisa.

Leaving the sexy route aside, I guess there is a lot of material in the battles of a mercenary…

Be a streamer… Like slow life. Solo camping. Primitive lifestyle. Building dams…

Every colony has its video site, so how about starting from Pokapoka…

“What site does this streamer use? You said in the galaxy, but are you talking about something under the Alliance?”

“We can use a video site in the colony. Also, there is a Media Guild that individual streamers and content creators can join.”

Is there…
