I’m unemployed but I’m exploring the dungeon again today – Chapter 149 – The Abyss XX (Illusion forest VII) – Part two

Next to the mansion is a roof where Totaro sleeps, with a lot of dry grass.

With a perfect place to live, the problem was food.

Meat wasn’t an issue, because I can take infinite meat.

Fish wasn’t a problem, because Totaro brought it.

I didn’t need to worry about water too much either. I can create it with magic, and I have the flower vase. I can also use the clean water of the lake in my daily life.

The problem was vegetables.

It might not mean anything for monsters, but it wasn’t enough nutrition for a person like me. I found carrots, but the others exploded or stunk, so I couldn’t eat them.

So I searched.

It might have been the most difficult part.

I used light water on grass and harvested the fruit that grew.

After preparing it, I tested it to see if it could be edible.

There were the carrots, so I figured there might be more and kept looking, to no avail.

I tested twenty things that I thought could work, like purple carrots, blue potatoes, and green and yellow marbled cabbage.

Five became spices, and I was glad to have ones that tasted like salt and pepper.

But this process was tough.

I cut, boiled, roasted, and tasted over five hundred.

I could deal with the lack of flavor, explosions, and foul stench, but there were debuffs, paralysis, illusions, and I prepared for death when a vegetable started rampaging inside me right after I ate it.

I’ve been planting and harvesting the vegetables and spices I got in front of the mansion.

If I was told to go look for them again, I’d cry and die. It was that painful, I don’t want to do it again.

“Kyurururu~, kyururu~.”

Ou, I see I see. Good job eating it.

If you’re sleepy, sleep in a room, not under the roof.

“Kuruh.”

Hinata responds, spreading its wings and going into the mansion.

I can’t understand what Hinata says.

Maybe it has a different kind of vocal cords, but it can’t form words. But it understands me, and seems to understand Fuuma and Totaro, and gestures to convey what it’s thinking.

That kid is smart.

It’s about as big as a human three year old, but it might be more intelligent than some adults.

Hinata flies out of the mansion with a blanket and manga, lands on Totaro’s head, and starts reading.

Fuuma bought that manga. I was really pissed when it arrived with the rest of that stuff, but it’s the only form of entertainment I have here.

Hinata reads manga, but that’s a teenage love story, so I don’t think it understands it, and just likes looking at the drawings.

Sometimes it taps Totaro’s head like it’s frustrated, so maybe it does understand.

I watch Hinata in my peripheral vision as I put things away.

Most of what we use is made of wood sourced from the forest. It’s light and tough, and not dangerous even if a kid like Hinata uses it.

By the way, Totaro made the tableware.

I tried it too, but it didn’t go well, and what I made wasn’t usable.

That combined with the mansion tells me Totaro might be a pro at making things.

Fuuma is handling the transport of the tableware, expertly using wind to carry it.

Lately I’ve been thinking, well, ever since I summoned it, that this horse is definitely a cool guy.

Now that it has the body of a thoroughbred, it really became polished as a man.

It’s wonderful with magic, and it’s pretty good fighting up close too. Its power is still growing, so I’m looking forward to seeing how far it will go..

I go back to the mansion with the cool horse Fuuma, and feel an abnormal magic energy intensifying behind me.

What? I turn around, and see Hinata on top of Totaro with its magic energy buzzing, and shining like it’s throwing a tantrum. It’s directed at me.

It would be easy to dodge or ward off this magic, but the mansion will be damaged if I dodge, the vegetables and fruits growing in the garden will be ruined if I ward it off, and there’s no time to take out the magic mirror shield-

I decided to go with a different method.

I clap my hands at the violent magic coming directly for me.

That creates a wave of magic energy, and the lump of light dissipates when it touches it.

It’s the magic the oni monster used, that surprisingly, I can replicate

I thought it was the power of that staff, but I managed it when I tried. Actually, the accuracy of Trace is crazy.

Ever since I became able to use Limit Break burst, I feel like I’ve gotten a deeper understanding.

There are still things I can’t copy, but I think that’s down to me not being suitable for it. There’s also a simple difference in technique.

Leaving that aside, Hinata looks really frustrated as it reads manga.

I have a peek, wondering what’s making it tap Totaro’s head so much.

It looks like a scene where the female main character’s boyfriend is cheating on her.

So it really is able to read it.
