I’m unemployed but I’m exploring the dungeon again today – Chapter 158 – The Abyss XXIX (Illusion forest XVI) – Part two

I understand through Parallel Thinking that’s the monster’s doing, but I can’t think beyond that.

This is bad, I think as I get flustered and use magic again from the trees.

I create a tornado that blows everything away. In the middle of the trees.

In this closed space, an explosion suddenly happens that knocks me against a tree. I expel the oxygen in my lungs as I use the staff even while pinned against the tree, and release the trees around.

As soon as I’m free from the tree, I’m blown away with the earth covering me, meaning my own magic did a lot of damage to me.

But I’m healed by the staff’s automatic heal ability.

I haven’t felt like I needed it, since I have Healing Magic, but I’m rethinking that.

As I heal, I can think as normal.

I sort out my thoughts with Parallel Thinking, create a rock spear, and take aim at the fat monster.

I activate the Destruction, Pierce, and Speed Up magic circles and fire it immediately.

I wanted to use more magic circles, but once I’m done healing, I might act weird again. I only use that, but it has enough power to strike the fat monster

The fat monster uses the earth that’s out of my control, and tries to block the spear. But its destructive power enhanced by the staff is immense, and it can’t stop it with earth alone. The fat monster’s stomach is easily pierced.

Guooh!?

It screams. Maybe it’s because of the pain, but the magic control manipulating the earth is lost, and it falls as it turns to a lot of dirt.

I prepare to follow it up, and once the automatic healing is done, my thoughts go astray again and I can’t attack it.

In fact, I almost use magic on myself.

Many wind blades fly, turn around, and come back.

Dammit, I say as I create a magic energy wave with the staff to erase the wind blades. Even as the wounded fat monster falls, I can see it coming at me.

I see it. The blade coming out of its arm to attack.

And yet I can’t react. I can’t only watch.

I know I’ll die at this rate, but I can’t move.

Even if I try to use magic, I don’t know what magic to use.

I just have to raise the staff against the blade, but I can’t.

I see the blade slowly drawing closer.

My eyes meet the fat monster’s, and I can see anger in them. Is it because it was attacked? The wound in its stomach isn’t small, but I don’t think it will be fatal. The blood coming out of it is clear, and it feels like the blood itself has magic energy.

Looking at the blade coming out of the fat arm more closely, it’s like a long claw. Is that why its arms didn’t seem to have joints, because they have claws inside them?

Wind blows, my body sways, and the thick blade is plunged into my shoulder.

The fat monster’s attack has no technique to it, it’s raw power. Because of that, it doesn’t cut my body, and crushes it.

The bones in my shoulder are crushed, internal organs are squashed, and my collarbone is pulverized. I lose my balance and almost fall, but I’ll be crushed to death before then.

Then automatic healing from the staff activates.

My thoughts become clear, and I can move.

But still, I have less than a moment, and I’ll be crushed regardless.

It’s pointless struggle.

My thoughts flow slowly, and I use the hand I can move, the right, to use Amadachi.

Light overflows from my right hand and pierces the fat monster.

Its anger filled eyes turn to surprise, and it slowly sways. It makes a loud sound as it falls, without life in its eyes.

I’m left with the upper part of my body crushed, and the lower half bent and pointing where it shouldn’t.

Is it my seeker vitality that’s keeping me alive? The staff’s automatic healing? Both? But as long as I’m conscious, I can use Healing Magic, so unless I die on the spot, I can recover.

I use the staff to control vegetation and move the body of the fat monster, and quickly heal.

I get up, cough the blood stuck in my throat, and look at the dead monster wrapped in roots.

This thing was going for my head.

If wind didn’t throw off its aim, I wouldn’t be standing right now, the monster would.

“Brr!”

“Kyui!”

Fuuma created that wind, and it approaches with Hinata on its back. It’s looking smug, showing off how it saved me.

I thank Fuuma and pet its head.

Hinata sees that, starts ruffling its mane, and Fuuma neighs for it to stop.

Anyway, I won.

I didn’t intend to be careless.

Looking back, I feel like something was off before the fight started.

Maybe I was already in the range of its attack.

The fat monster most likely had the ability to take away the opponent’s thoughts.

If it works no matter the gap between their power, it’s a terrifying ability.

If I didn’t manage to regain my thoughts with the staff, it would’ve gotten me. I would’ve died without Fuuma. I was just lucky.

I’ll have to work out a way to deal with this sort of thing.

I put the fat monster’s corpse in the Storage Space, and tell the other two to go back.

---

Uribe (fat monster)

Has the ability to control an enemy’s thoughts and drive them to suicide. The range is large, and the closer one is, the stronger the effect. It hides blades in its arms, and can control the opponent’s magic. It could transform into a slender form that was strong against physical attacks, but if it did so, the protagonist would have killed it instantly.

Strongest when it is fat.
