“For example, there was a race that was good at smiting, and marriages would be formed when a girl accepted a specific thing the other person made. But when women that didn’t know about this accepted it just because they thought it was something nice, they were forced to go through with the marriage.”
“Eh… That’s a problem.”
“And it varies from settlement to settlement. There used to be big problems in the past because of reasons that varied from place to place. It was a big issue when the country was first formed, because all these different peoples had their own rules. And some people think the same problem is going to happen with our village.”
I don’t really understand what Mister Nirushi said very well. So I look at him, and he breaks it down in a way that’s easier for me to understand.
“If more people are going to live here, that means people coming in from the outside, right?”
“Yes.”
“I’m sure the people coming here have their own rules and habits. So far, we haven’t received anyone with rules and habits that would become big problems, but it might happen eventually. And not knowing that means that how we act might go against what they think is normal, right?”
“Yes… There’s no trouble about that now, but… The more people we have, the higher the chances that it’ll happen.”
“Yes. The Kingdom of Lunid experienced these things that might happen here, and became a country like that. I think we should learn their history so we have an example.”
“It’s important to be ready for things that might happen.”
There are things we might solve without any problems, but it’s better to prevent them from happening in the first place.
That’s not a problem now, because we’re getting more people slowly. But if something happens that means we have to take in a lot of people all of a sudden, we might not be able to handle it well.
Mister Nirushi is thinking that far. I think that’s great.
I’m so interested in this country I’ve never visited, that I didn’t think about that.
Most people don’t know about this place we live in. But if that changes one day… That means being involved with lots more people. We need to think about that too.
“And that means that when you all go to the Kingdom of Lunid, you need to be careful about those misunderstandings?”
“Yes. That said, apparently nowadays in the Kingdom of Lunid, they don’t let those unique rules override what people want. But even though those are mostly gone, they’re still enforced in more remote villages. But they also solve them in ways like sending in knights to settle things.”
“I see. So knights have to do that kind of work too, in countries with many races.”
So in the Kingdom of Lunid, knights have to settle problems that come from races having different cultures and customs.
This is just what Mister Nirushi knows from investigating the Kingdom of Lunid, so it might be a little different in reality.
But I’m sure this structure is important.
People are a part of a big country like that, and that country has its rules that people follow. But that still leaves the rules different groups have.
“As the population increases, there are going to be things those people think are important and that they want to keep.”
“I think so too, but some things just have to change. There are things that people might have to change if they want to get in this village.”
“Yes. We need to talk about those things, and then decide. It’s better if we all agree on things.”
If we’re going to be a little involved with Lunid, will people from these races Mister Nirushi talked about live in this village? Thinking about having new friends makes me excited.
But at the same time, they might bring new problems, so we have to think about that.
…Is that what Lunid did? They accepted many different races, they talked, and joined into a country?
Maybe Mister Nirushi is right, and we should look to it as an example. We don’t have to walk the same exact path, but there might be a lot we can use as reference.
And as I hear more about it, I really want to visit the Kingdom of Lunid. Maybe if they go there a few more times and decide it’s not a problem, I’ll get to go?
