The frontier alchemist ~ I can’t go back to that job after you made my budget zero – Chapter 268 – Responsibility, readiness, and choice

“Who are you sir?”

Actor Reese asks while knitting and looking up at me.

She has two wooden knitting needles in her hands. Two strings appear out of the void, and she’s been turning them into the bear dolls with those knitting needles, one after the other.

A world based on her memories is spread around her. I get close to her, but I’m careful not to step inside it.

I watch her closely for a bit. She has a blank look on her face, and knits at an incredible speed, that doesn’t seem natural.

She doesn’t look at her hands at all, and knits like she’s a machine.

“Hello, Actor Reese. I am Rust, an alchemist. You’re really good at knitting.”

“Actor? What’s that? I’m just Reese.”

She says, looking confused.

I’m guessing it’s an effect of being trapped here for so long.

I see, so I don’t just have to find her. I really have to undo the bondage of the curse placed on the scripture…

After thinking that far, I stop after reaching a concerning conclusion.

I’ve regained the shaman’s power, so thankfully, I can see it clearly.

The wool being spun from the void has become the intermediary for the curse.

Now the problem is that in order to free her from this situation, I’m going to have to cut the strings, but I can also see that if I do that, Actor Reese will lose her oracle power.

The power of curses and oracle have mixed together, and have taken the form of the strings stretching all the way to Actor Reese. It’s a nasty way to use curses. I’m sure whatever’s on the other side is the same thing that took Taula. I’m sure it has a nasty character.

I take a deep breath, and make up my mind, making two blades appear.

One is Taula’s sword, and the other is the twin horntail knife.

I cross them together and hold them in the air, and step into the area created via Actor Reese’s memories to at least cut the strings as close to her as I can.

The world made by her memories starts to encroach on me, but it can’t stop me from swinging the two blades.

I create two streaks of light, and even I’m impressed by how cleanly I cut the two strings.
