Just attacking isn’t going to be enough to take down the tigerwolves.
Then how do I create an opening?
Going after Shuuza really would be more effective. Obviously, he’s not going to make that easy, but attacking him would still be advantageous.
By using Presence Detection, I can see half the attackers are monsters. I don’t know if they’re all being controlled by Shuuza, but since they’re only attacking his enemies, he must have some control over them.
And at the same time, if Shuuza senses danger and keeps calling monsters this way, that will change the situation of the battle elsewhere, and it might help us turn the situation here to our advantage too.
And so, I keep fighting the tigerwolf, but also fire magic and throw knives with magic infused.
Sometimes I aim straight at Shuuza, but I also try to look out for times when he’s lined up with the tigerwolf. But it feels like he might be aware of that, because he keeps running around while we fight.
Being level 46 means he can move pretty well, but he still feels a bit slow.
I block an attack from a tigerwolf, and fire area of effect magic, unleashing Firestorm and Stone Shower to attack Shuuza from the front and back.
First it’s Firestorm from the front, and not long after, Stone Shower from the back.
He reacts to Firestorm, and he’s about to dodge, but the rocks attack him from the back. It takes him completely by surprise, but he manages to block, using his monster as a shield.
I’m surprised by how quickly the tigerwolf closed that distance, but pushing its body beyond its limits is making its movements dull now.
I run towards it and finish it with a Sword Rush.
It would’ve been a good idea to go Shuuza instead, but the moment I started to get close he ran away, and pushed the tigerwolf in front of me.
“Hmph, useless thing.”
Says Shuuza to the downed tigerwolf, and calls two more.
Now I’m fully on the defensive, but I don’t rush, and wait for an opportunity.
The monsters are being enhanced by him, but Sera and the others have grown too. And as they fought monsters, so have their levels.
Also, thanks to my Natural Recovery Boost, my MP recovers faster than normal, so I’m waiting for it. The more MP I recover, the more options I have available.
I face the tigerwolves, slash at one of them, and fire magic at the other.
The real attack is the slash, and the magic is to keep the other one back.
But then, I feel something’s off when the tigerwolf is hit by my attack.
At first I thought I was just imagining it, but I’m gradually being pushed back.
My first thought is that it’s because I’m taking on two at once, but no. And when Rurika and Chris take down a monster, that suspicion turns into a certainty.
“Hmph, did you think things would get easier for you if you took down monsters?”
Shuuza says with a confident smile, as he throws a knife from afar like he’s supporting his monsters.
I dodge it, but that breaks my posture, and I have to block a tigerwolf’s attack from an awkward position.
The impact I feel is clearly stronger than before.
No doubt about it. The less monsters there are, the stronger each one is.
So that’s why Shuuza looks confident even when monsters go down…
I think Shuuza knows that I just reached this conclusion, because he smiles in a way that’s like he’s mocking me.
He’s provoking me! No, I need to stay calm.
I can’t let him control the pace. Yes, the monsters get stronger, but having less of them is still good for us.
Even if each monster is stronger, other places are evenly matched with them. Actually, I just felt another monster reaction disappear.
The guards led by Joseph are one thing, but according to Rurika and Chris, the adventurers participating in the investigation of the ruins are famous in the whole republic for being strong. I’m sure they can take those monsters down.
Shuuza notices what’s happening too, because he’s gradually losing that daring attitude.
“I’m done here too.”
Sera finishes off a tigerwolf, and immediately joins me and takes on one of the tigerwolves attacking me.
I see a good opportunity to use a skill, and throw three knives in quick succession. These aren’t meant to hit, but they activate magic around the tigerwolf. The small Firestorms are activated near the tigerwolf, and stop it from moving.
I get close, and unleash a Swordslash. The tigerwolf is covered in flames, but still reaches out to try to block it with its claws.
It can’t dodge because the blast made it so it can’t move very well, and it’s probably using its previous combat experience to judge that it can block my attack.
But this slash has more power behind it due to Gravity Magic. This slash enhanced by a skill and magic cuts through the tigerwolf’s defense and rips its body.
Shuuza tries to call more monsters, but it feels like he realizes he can’t.
I think it’s my aggressive offense that’s making him think that.
“R-retreat!”
Calls out Shuuza while quickly turning around.
The monsters are still fighting, so he’s planning to use them to escape.
That yell was for the other combatants.
I see him throw something on the ground, and smoke starts coming out of it, blocking my vision. It’s like a smoke bomb a ninja would use.

“Hmph, did you think things would get easier for you if you took down monsters?”
Joseph says with a confident smile, as he throws a knife from afar like he’s supporting his monsters.
Shouldn’t it be Shuuza? Joseph is the guard…
