Walking in another world – Chapter 364 – Elizabeth – Part two

How long was it since I became alone?

Archa faced the danger of extinction many times, but somehow, it still survived.

I should have been happier the longer the peaceful time lasted, but my heart became cold.

I was lonely all by myself.

No one was there. Even though… There were so many people in Archa.

Every time I saw smiles on the faces of the people of Archa, my chest hurt.

I leaned on the soul circulatory organ Kochel made, held my knees with my arms after I sat down, and placed my head on my knees.

I was tired of even thinking. I wondered what I was doing.

I almost got caught in the thought that I might as well do the same, but shook it off. After all, I needed to protect the place where they would all come back.

◇ ◇ ◇

At first, it was a small war.

When I realized it was the start of an age of turmoil, the world was messed up badly enough that there was nothing that could be done.

The war that began after hundreds of years really was just a tiny conflict at first.

And then towns, countries got involved, and destruction spread through Archa.

Hostilities were opened all over, and the beings living in Archa were dying at an incredibly rapid pace.

It was fighting more intense than ever before, that had no end in sight.

Normally, it would die down naturally as they became exhausted, but not this time.

People of Archa kept fighting like they were possessed.

“At this rate… Is it going to be destroyed?”

I trembled in fear, and thought about what to do.

‘How to stop a war? Just create a common enemy.’

In the middle of all that, I remembered what Haeckel once told me.

A common enemy… And so, I used the soul circulatory organ to create one.

And that was the beginning of all demon kings.

◇ ◇ ◇

After that, every time a big war broke out, I manifested a demon king.

Creating a demon king took a lot of energy from the soul circulatory organ, so I picked people with strong magic energy in Archa. People suitable to become demon kings.

The people who became demon kings simply became enemies of the people of Archa as ordered, and their destruction led to peace.

That same pattern repeated itself many times in the land of Archa.

A common enemy… People would join hands when a demon king appeared, but as time passed, they would forget about it and start fighting. They learned nothing.

I was sad, thinking there was nothing I could do about that.

And one day, the soul circulatory organ began to not do well.

I acquired some knowledge, and learned techniques from Kochel, so I continued using the soul circulatory organ as I repaired it, but the rate of collection of souls was gradually going down.

The way things were going, the balance of retrieval and return would be broken, and eventually collapse.

And as if that was not enough, a problem arose in Archa.

A demon king was named because a great war had started, but the demon king of that age was too strong.

Representatives of humanity called heroes all fell before the demon king, and countries were destroyed one after the other.

The population of Archa rapidly declined, and it was in a truly precarious situation.

I thought that was fate. All would end there.

The soul circulatory organ was almost empty, so I figured even if I used everything, the demon king would not go down. No, it was more that if I did use it, Archa would be doomed anyway.

But fate did not wish for Archa to collapse.

At first, I did not know where he came from, but he suddenly appeared in a small country, stopped the advance of the demon king, and eventually defeated him.

I shuddered at his overwhelming power.

Eventually, he married the princess of a small country, and the country known as the Kingdom of Elesya was born.

I looked into who he was and where he came from, and in the end, discovered he came from another world.

Crossing through worlds… I figured if I understood this phenomenon, I could freely go into Archa and back, but in the end, all I could do… Was summon people from another world, and move souls to Archa.

And so, I was able to summon people from another world when a demon king was born.

I also transmitted the method to the royalty of the Kingdom of Elesya.

After trying it a few times, I realized that only the people I summoned could go back to their world, but I still taught them how to do it.

Because I knew it. I knew that when otherworlders died, a lot of energy would be brought to the soul circulatory organ.

That’s why I overlooked it when the Kingdom of Elesya worked otherworlders hard for their own purposes, treated them as slaves, created destroyers who inherited the blood of otherworlders, and continued to grow their country.

What mattered was continuing the existence of Archa. That was the top priority.

Thinking back, there were a few otherworlders in particular who caught my eye.

That power… I thought they might have been strong enough to threaten my life, but I soon forgot about it as something that did not matter.

That was because I learned of something enjoyable.

That method to transport only souls, that I learned when I learned how to summon people from another world. I used it to possess a saint, and kill a demon king myself.

I felt an indescribable elation when I first killed a demon king with my own hands.

It was something I had forgotten over the course of those long years, probably the feeling called joy.
