Walking in another world – Chapter 410 – Communications device – Part two

I call it a communications device, but all it really does is make it so two things I make can get into contact with each other.

That means that if I want to use it to contact Ignis and the others, they have to be holding my communications device.

“So what’s the problem?”

“I was just wondering how many I should make…”

I tell Chris what’s on my mind.

If I want to contact Argo and his party, I can just send a message to the adventurer guild. Not to mention that just because we fought together in the capital, it doesn’t mean we’ll keep working together from now on.

I should hand one to Morrigan or Eris, for Chris and the others’ sake, and Naoto… Or rather, Kotori?

These communications devices aren’t that hard to make, but pretty difficult to use. Basically, you need to have a good amount of magic energy to make them work.

A person with little magic energy can still set a magic stone and use it, but its fuel consumption isn’t good.

I was going to make it so they can absorb magic energy from the air, like the golems do, but that would make the communication cut out, so I gave up on it.

Maybe it would work if my Absorption level was higher, and they could take in more magic energy at once, but that won’t be possible now.

And so, I’ve decided to make at least three, including one for us, but I’m wondering if I should make one for each member of my party.

“Then how about you make one for Chris?”

“Just for Chris?”

“It would be a waste of magic stones. Not to mention that Chris would be the one in most danger if she was alone.”

Says Rurika, and Sera nods.

Chris on the other hand isn’t too happy about that, and argues, but in the end, they talk her down.

Well, I’d be worried about Chris the most too. She might be the strongest when she can use spirit magic freely, but the image I have of her from when we first met is still fresh in my mind.

Then I’ll make four. No, I have the materials for it, so maybe I’ll make six.

And if I make it so the volume can be adjusted with magic energy, can I make it so it has a sort of speaker function that allows Rurika and the others to easily talk to Eris and Morrigan too?

I activate the Creation skill right away, and get to work.

I’m picturing a smartphone, so it’s more compact than what Ignis and the other demons use. I’m pretty sure most people wouldn’t even think it was a magic item.

Should I add some sort of usage authorization function too? If it’s not in use, I think most people would assume it was a useless little box if they found it somewhere.

I should watch people’s magic energy and adjust it when I hand them to everyone. We say it’s all magic energy, but everyone’s has subtle differences, like fingerprints.

“So this is a communications device?”

“It’s so different from the ones Suiren and the others used.”

The next day, I go visit Morrigan and the others, and hand them the communications devices.

I end up giving one to Morrigan and Eris, and one to Suiren. I also registered Suiren and the elves living with her on that one.

Ah, ah. Can you hear me?”

I can hear you Morrigan.”

Yes grandma, we can hear you.”

By the way, multiple devices can be connected and used at the same time like this. It’s like a group call, I guess?

There’s also a log of sorts that shows when there was contact. For example, if Chris uses hers to contact Morrigan’s, but a connection isn’t made, there will be letters on Morrigan’s display that show Chris tried to contact her.

And by choosing the number, you can pick who you want to contact.

“But they spend more magic energy the further they are apart. And please keep in mind that they keep spending it while you’re talking.”

I attached an MP Consumption Reduction effect, but I won’t know how well it works until we keep using them.

“What a convenient world this has become.”

“Grandma, this sort of thing isn’t everywhere. Be careful about that too, Eris. Don’t use them around other people too much!”

Says Rurika, warning Morrigan as she acts casually.

Yes, having a communications device is pretty rare. I mean, how many people in this world have one they can carry?

There’s something like this in adventurer guilds, so I can’t say they didn’t exist already, but we can’t be sure there won’t be people trying to steal them if they see them.

Morrigan aside, Eris, Suiren, and others from the faraway town not only used them on a regular basis with the demons, but Suiren even had one, so they probably don’t understand that it’s a rare thing.

Not that I’m one to talk, since I completely missed that too.

“Well then, we’re going to give one to Kotori, and then I think we’ll be leaving.”

We’re done helping to some extent, so now it’s up to Suiren and the others to shape the town piece by piece.

It would be easier to ask one of the demons to take a Transfer magic item to the Dragon Kingdom, but apparently the Dragon Kingdom isn’t the sort of place where demons can casually fly into.

“Although Ignis, Ghido, and Ou too wouldn’t have a problem.”

Says Windsor.

We also say goodbye to Argo and his party, and head to Nahal, where Kotori and the others are.
