We finish Luna’s tour of the village not long after, and return to Elga’s house together.
“It’s probably okay now.”
Says Luna before she goes inside.
I can hear quiet voices, so she’s probably telling them we’re here. Then she peeks out from inside the house, and makes a circle with her arms.
“Hello Elga and Livia.”
“H-hey…”
“Welcome, you two.”
I guess Luna told them we saw them.
Elga looks awkward, but Livia doesn’t seem to mind. She has the same smile has always on her face, and invites us in.
“Sorry for dropping by so suddenly.”
“No, I should’ve closed the door…”
“Oh, but we were doing nothing we had to hide. People here don’t mind either.”
“It’s still embarrassing.”
Looks like Livia doesn’t care if she’s seen.
As a guy, I can sympathize with Elga, but what does Reina think?
She feels like the type to get embarrassed over people watching her too…
“Arata, I need to speak to Livia, so can you go wait outside?”
“Hn? Sure, but why?”
“Oh my, Arata. Don’t mess with girl talk.”
I feel like Livia knows what Reina wants to talk about, and gets up to whisper in her ear.
Reina’s face gets a little red, and she nods.
“We are going out for a bit, dear.”
“Just don’t take too long.”
They leave, and Elga stays here with me.
“So, what did you want?”
I’m taken to a room, and the way Elga sits on the floor reminds me of Suzaku.
Even if they aren’t technically related, they’re still parent and child.
I then tell him why we’re here.
“I heard divine beast people are on good terms with elves.”
“Yes, we trade things all the time.”
That’s nice, I didn’t misremember it.
“We’ve been thinking about going to the high elves’ village to say hello, so we wanted to ask if you know what they and their great spirits might like.”
I say, and Elga nods. He thinks about it for a while, and then turns to me with a sharp expression.
“Meat.”
“I see.”
That’s a pretty clear answer, and I nod back.
“High elves treasure nature. It’s one thing if monsters and other beings that live there eat each other to survive, but they don’t like killing things themselves.”
So it’s okay if I hunt in the southern forest?
It’s not like I’m hunting for sport, I hunt so we can eat. But it still leaves me a little scared.
“That’s mostly what we give them from our village, meat. You can gift them meat cooked by Reina.”
“They’ll love it for sure!”
“All right then. And what about the great spirits?”
“I dunno, they don’t come out too often. But I guess if the northern great spirits like something, they’ll like it too.”
“What do great spirits like…”
…Snow?
They feel a little distant from other living beings of this island, so I feel like we should give them something other than food.
Anyway, we’ll start by saying hello to the high elves, and then ask if we can bring something.
“I think I got it, thanks.”
“Ou.”
“But about earlier… Is it always like that?”
“Arata, you’ve got a stupid grin on your face.”
I can’t help it. It’s nice seeing a new side of a friend.
I look outside, but it doesn’t look like they’re coming back already.
“You told them, uh Luna?”
“Eh? Why not?”
“It’s embarrassing!”
I think it’s normal. No reason to be embarrassed.
I’m sure that much is normal to Elga and Livia.
“Eh… But those two are always like that, so it’s normal!”
“Guh!”
I thought we were messing with Elga, but I’m suddenly under attack.
No, we’re like family, but we’re friends, not married like Elga and Livia. We don’t fool around like that without concern for whoever may be watching either.
And as I make excuses in my head, this time, it’s Elga who’s grinning.
“Tell me more about it.”
He says to me, and I surrender and apologize.
