“It was strong.”
Whispers Rurika after the poison frog is down.
Its tongue attacks were intense, but not a mortal threat. That’s because I used Provoke and became its target.
If this was one on one and there was no one with paralysis resistance, it would be dangerous.
I feel like the materials didn’t mention paralysis. At least not what I read.
Also, after the fight, I noticed that the weapons used to attack the poison frog are coated in something slimy. It’s not something I want to touch.
Is this what was covering the poison frog’s body?
I try to wipe it, but it’s like stubborn dirt. Although fire does the trick.
Is that why attacks started working against it? Because Chris’ Heat Circle melted the mucus covering its body?
“Chris, did you use Heat Circle because you knew that?”
“I read it seemed weak to fire, so I decided to try it.”
“Really?”
I didn’t notice it. I try to remember it now, but I must not have seen it.
If I did see it, I would’ve remembered it because of the Memory skill.
“Yes, but while it is nice that it worked, it would have damaged us if we went inside it, so we will need heat resistant equipment if we are going to fight them up close.”
“Heat resistant robes would get in the way… I think it’s safer if I Provoke one at a time and Hikari takes them down.”
And so, we start hunting poison frogs.
The strategy is as stated. I Provoke them, Chris uses Heat Circle, and Hikari takes them down.
Then I collect corpses and repeat until we have enough magic stones for everyone, and fight a few more for materials.
It’s a new monster, so I might be able to use them with Alchemy or Creation.
I’ll check when I have the time.
I might get distracted with something else, but the materials won’t go bad in the Item Box.
I actually wish we could hunt more, but checking with the Farsight skill tells me there aren’t any more around here. There are reactions, but they’re in the swamp, meaning I can’t use Provoke on them.
Going into the swamp isn’t an option. I might get stuck, and it could be bottomless.
We leave the swamp, and head towards the pond.
“Master, there are monsters nearby.”
“Apparently.”
It’s not all of them, but I can see the reactions of sea devils in one area moving. But they’re not leaving the pond.
I’m using Farsight, but they’re hiding behind trees, so I can’t see them.
Luring them one at a time with Provoke isn’t going to work here.
“Then should we get closer?”
“It will be night soon, so I think we should stop for today.”
We have time until the water rises again, so there’s no rush.
But I’m curious about the ones that got closer. Do they want to attack at night?
“I’m curious too. I think we need to be extra careful when we keep watch.”
Says Argo in response to me.
We find an open area among the trees after getting away from the pond, and set up camp.
Mia and the others cook, while the rest of us follow Hikari and Guilford’s instructions while setting traps.
They’re clappers that will warn us if enemies are nearby, and traps that will activate when something steps on them. That said, I don’t think something as primitive as a log trap will work.
They’re just there to buy time, so it’s fine.
“Master, can’t you make walls with magic?”
“It would be hard to maintain them for a long time.”
Depending on the dungeon, I can even make a building with its dirt, but not in Avid.
Although I wish I could make defensive walls.
Once we’re done eating, we split into three teams to keep watch.
First, it’s Hikari and Guilford, then me and Guilford, and lastly, me and Rurika. It’s up to us with presence detection skills.
“Are you okay with this, Sora? I didn’t fight, so I’m fine, but you fought the whole time.”
“I’m okay.”
I used Provoke and fought poison frogs, but as we got used to them, Hikari and Chris took them down before they attacked, so all I did from then on was stand back and cast Provoke. Also, I don’t get tired when I walk, so I actually already rested.
There’s also Natural Recovery Boost.
“…Okay. But tell me if it gets rough. There’s still more dungeon to go, and we’ll be in trouble if you’re out of action.”
I can sense how concerned Guilford is.
I nod, and focus on resting well.
