The father’s faces instantly stiffened at Yuugo’s response.
As he stared at their faces, the first person to speak was the one more closely connected to Ryuuga, Ujiyasu.
“…We should have told you those preparations are already being done.”
“I see. That’s good to hear.”
“…In fact, it comes too late, considering the Utsusemi family caused it all. Renjou would never forgive it no matter the compensation.”
Ujiyasu faced down as he said this, and clenched his fists strongly with his arms crossed.
Motonari spoke as if to back him up.
“…The Utsusemi family did not get involved with Renjou and his family under orders from Yamato, because doing so might have revealed Raiha’s secret. He deeply regrets his sins.”
“But the fact remains that my ego caused a tragedy. I wanted not to lose my daughter so much, that I picked an option that made no one happy…”
“Don’t beat yourself up. We’re all in it together, because we all kept the secret. It’s not just your fault.”
As he said, Ujiyasu deeply regretted setting in motion the events that led to the death of Ryuuga’s father.
It was to save his daughter’s life, but ruining someone’s life and taking Ryuuga and Yui’s father from them was unforgivable.
Motonari and Tadakatsu felt they carried the same sin.
It was not just because the three families produced combat miko, Yuugo also felt friendship between them, and spoke to Ujiyasu as he still faced down.
“…I can’t say anything about that matter. I doubt Ryuuga will forgive you or Raiha that easily either, but… he has broken free from hatred and revenge. He didn’t forget everything, but he’s moving on. And so is Raiha.”
“…Yes, he really is a strong kid. It would make perfect sense for someone in his position to abandon her, but he saved my daughter despite her killing his father. I can never thank him enough.”
“If you think so, face forward too. It’s not just Ryuuga and Yui, please think about compensating everyone involved in that incident. I think that more than anything will show Ryuuga remorse and gratitude.”
“…”
Ujiyasu silently nodded.
Motonari fixed the glasses on his face, and spoke quietly.
“…I think I understand why my daughter holds you in high regard. You’re strong, and kinder than any.”
“Right? He’s a man’s man. I thought that when I fought him.”
Yuugo laughed, embarrassed about the praise from the Yamato VIP.
As the heavy mood slowly became lighter, Motonari spoke with a more formal tone.
“Yuugo, you said you don’t want anything, but we can’t let that stand. Please take this as a token of gratitude.”
Motonari clapped his hands, the door opened, and three men and women who appeared to be servants walked in.
They placed what appeared to be a large treasure box on a table, bowed, and left. Yuugo turned to Motonari with a question, sounding nervous.
“Hum, what is this…?”
“Open it.”
Yuugo did just that, and gulped at what he saw.
Inside the box were materials, such as a lustrous green scale and a long string he assumed was from a beard. He immediately knew what they were.
“They are materials from wind, water, and lightning loong. Use them as you please, whether it is in your armor or research materials for your younger brother.”
“We collected top grade materials. The quality and quantity should be enough, but… if you think it’s not enough, say so, okay Yuugo? A man should be a little greedy!”
“This is the least we can do for the one who saved our daughters. Accept it.”
“Ah, hum… Thank you very much. I can’t believe I’m taking something this precious…!”
Yuugo was not too familiar with Yamato, let alone this world, but he knew how precious these materials were.
Uno was beyond surprised, he was sweating out of nervousness, and trembled at the pressure exuding from these loong materials.
That was not why, but gladly Yuugo took the loong materials brought by Motonari.
He was not looking for a reward, and considered saying no, but these were VIP from Yamato. There was no way they were leaving without offering anything.
…He also felt like saying no would destroy Uno’s stomach.
In order to not offend the ones from Yamato and for the honor of Luminous Academy, he thought it would be best to accept it and leave it at that. He bowed deeply to show his gratitude, and Tadakatsu spoke while laughing loudly.
“Don’t be so formal! If you marry into the Amamiya family, I’ll make you plenty of equipment with water loong materials! My daughter takes after me, she’s a little strong physically and in character, but… I think you’d make a good husband! So? How about marrying into our family?”
“Tadakatsu, did you forget that we agreed not to talk about that? But speaking of which, I also welcome you, Yuugo. Setsuna proposed that you be her fiance, correct? She is not alone in that, as the head of the family, I accept it.”
“Eeh…!?”
“Stop it you two. You’re troubling Yuugo.”
Yuugo had a bad feeling when he first faced Tadakatsu, but it seemed they wanted to take Yuugo into their families for the sake of their daughters.
Husband and fiance were both frightening words that decided one’s life, and as they flew around the reception room, Uno’s face turned pale and spasmed.
Of course, he was seeing a student from his school being asked by Yamato VIP to marry their daughters, so the reaction was appropriate… And Yuugo wondered if the gift of loong materials was not intended to set the groundwork.
Perhaps accepting them was a mistake, he thought, but he got through it thanks to Ujiyasu, the one who did not appear to have those intentions and interjected in his favor.
