By the way, I’m now living in the mountains – Chapter 9 – Turns out my western mountain neighbor is a normie. Go explode

Turns out the handsome Aikawa’s first name is actually Shaw. Well, it’s not exactly the same, but close. And I’m also not thinking that a handsome normie is something I can’t forgive. Not at all.

It’s incredible how I can tell he’s handsome even in the dark. His hair is kind of long, and I heard people in the village saying he looked flashy, but they weren’t lying.

“Hum, what are you doing here so late at night?”

It’s actually not that late, but it’s pitch black. It feels much later now than when I was at home.

“Ah… Hum… Well… How should I put this…”

He’s having trouble saying it. But just as I’m wondering what circumstances there could be, I look behind him and open my eyes widely.

“…Eek… Uwaaaah!!”

I fall back on my butt. I mean, that long hair on the tree behind him… Aikawa sees me, and turns around.

“Ah… It’s scary, isn’t it?”

Apparently he can see what I’m seeing too, but he’s so relaxed. Is this like… That? Is this place haunted by former soldiers of the Taira army or something like that? No one told me about that! Pops! Explain!

I yell all that at myself, but I’m too scared to speak.

Pochi and Tama take position in front of me, and Yuma right beside me. If it weren’t for them, I’d be crying right now. What do you mean it’s pathetic? Leave me alone.

“Rin.”

I hear what sounds like something heavy being dragged. Aikawa then approaches the long hair, and gently brushes it aside, Revealing white skin and a beautiful face. Is this…

“Sorry for scaring you.”

Says Aikawa with an awkward smile, and the girl bows. I can tell even from a distance that she’s beautiful, but my first impression is that she’s like a snake. Although I don’t say it because I don’t want to be rude.

“Ah, no…”

I force my still trembling limbs to move, and get up. I’m up! Clara got up! Is how I feel. (I don’t know what that means. I know Heidi from commercials and from amazon prime. I didn’t watch it live.)

But what’s a girl doing here so late… And my mountain neighbor too…

I get it. Is it a lover’s quarrel? You normies really should explode. And have your bones thrown to the bottom of the sea.

“Hum, if nothing’s really happening, I’ll…”

I came all the way down here, but it really was for nothing.

“I’m sorry about all the noise. Will you be here tomorrow?”

“Yes, I will.”

“Then I’ll come by tomorrow. Ah… Smartphone…”

Apparently he left in a hurry and forgot it. Me too. That means I can’t call for help if something happens. Scary. I’m feeling a chill running down my spine.

“I forgot mine too…”

We both smile awkwardly.

“Then I’ll come by after lunch.”

“Ah, yes…”

This handsome guy is pretty polite. Also, why is going into the mountain instead of taking the road? Because using the road means having to go around? It’s pretty dangerous when it’s so dark, but somehow, they navigate through the darkness and disappear into it.

I keep hearing that sound of something heavy being dragged as they disappear.

“…What was that about?”

About.”

About.”

About.”

I laugh as my chickens say that one at a time. I’m really glad I have them.

And it’s the same when I finally get back home. It’s pretty hard going up. I would’ve probably lost my spirit if I was alone.

And despite the cool air here on the mountain, I’m all sweaty.

“Ah, geez… And I took a bath and everything…”

But I don’t want to go to sleep like this either. And just as I’m about to go inside, my chickens start pecking at me all over. It’s always like this. I always seem to catch leaves along with other trash and bugs where I can’t see it. I guess that’s how most of the mosquitoes come in, stuck to me. That’s why I always pat myself down before going in, but today I forgot because I’m tired.

And that means getting a pecking by the chickens. It’s really nice how they eat the bugs for me and groom me.

The bathwater is cold, so I’ll just wipe my body. I could start the fire again, but I’m just sweaty, so that will do. I don’t want to waste gas either. But before I start wiping, Yuma starts pecking my hair and making it all clean and nice… At least I want to think so.

“Ah, I’m tired.”

I whisper as I stroke Pochi’s feathers, that got all funky with some springing up here and there.

Tired.”

Tired.”

Tired.”

“Don’t you tell me that.”

I say as I laugh. I was wondering who that handsome guy reminded me of, and it’s Kamenashi Kazuya. He just gives off the same feeling. I’m sure they’d look different if they were standing next to each other. Not that it would happen.

It probably just seemed that way because it was dark. And with that thought crossing through my mind, I go to sleep.

The next morning, I wake up a little late. I guess I was more tired than I thought. My calves hurt, probably due to muscular pain.

“Ah, ouch…”

This used to happen when I first got here. Lately I’ve been getting used to it, so I forgot, but now my body is screaming again because I ran almost all the way down to the foot of the mountain.

“What am I going to tend to today…”

Slacking off is easy, but it comes at a great price. Vegetation grows fast when it starts to get warm. I eat yesterday’s leftovers as I decide to go patrol around the foot of the mountain, because it’s the golden week.

Let’s go out and fight again today.
