I picked up an unsold slave elf and made her my daughter – Chapter 84 – Ririi is shocked

“Get ready!”

“…!”

Meanwhile, Lain cornered another blue slime. The slime tried to run with tears in its eyes, but since part of its body was being stepped on, its body just stretched, and then returned. It was a truly desperate situation.

“Hum, first picture a magic circle…”

Lain thought back to a magic book she read in the library in her home, while she pointed her hand at the slime at her feet. She focused magic energy in her hand, and a faintly glowing yellow magic circle appeared.

It seemed unstable, as it flickered like flames.

“Hm… So it’s really not going to work right from the start.”

Magic energy sent to a magic circle had to be strong to a certain degree to be able to fixate a magic circle in the air, but the book she read only described the magic circle itself, so Lain did not learn about this. This was why she did not manage to get it to work in her home either, until she tried it again and again.

Her goal was to be able to make a magic circle appear the first time.

“I think it goes well if I do it like this…”

Lain stared at the magic circle, and slowly made magic energy flow to it. This made the flickering slowly settle, until it stopped completely.

The slime was crying like a waterfall as it looked at Lain from the other side of the magic circle, but Lain did not notice it. Its pleas for mercy went on unnoticed to a tragic degree.

“All right, now I just have to fill it with magic energy…!”

The magic circle released a strong light, as magic energy was turned into lightning when it passed through it, and hit the slime.

“…!”

The slime melted on the ground as smoke billowed. Lain did not use a lot of magic energy, but unfortunately for the slime, it was a water slime and it was lightning magic, so it ended its life.

“Yay! I beat a monster!”

Lain was happy. She changed her job to slime hunter, as she felt the results of the studying she did day by day, and advanced deeper into the forest.

The magic wagon carrying the students of the first class of the first year took back one more passenger compared to when it went to the forest. The blue slime sleeping on Ririi’s lap. After some discussion, this slime became the new colleague of the class. It was nicknamed Bouncy, since it was Ririi who discovered it.

They would decide who took care of it once they were back in the classroom.

“Bouncy~ jiggle bouncy~…”

Ririi sang a strange song while petting the slime. Next to her was a tired Lain, who fell asleep. She managed to defeat three more slime that day.

“Ririi, can I touch Bouncy?”

“Sure.”

Ririi handed the slime to another girl. This girl also started gently petting the slime, with a smile on her face. It was safe to say Esmeralda’s lesson was a success.

Afterwards, the slime was passed around the wagon, as the other students also wanted to touch it, and by the time the wagon reached the school, the slime was warm from all the touching.

“…?”

Once released in the classroom, Bouncy started hopping all over the place. It already lost its fear of humans, but its mind could not keep up with this sudden change in its environment.

It eventually moved to a corner, pushed itself on it like it was covering the corner, and fell asleep.

“…Why is there a slime in the classroom?”

Lain whispered, unable to understand how that happened. Esmeralda heard her, and responded.

“That slime is going to be our class’ new colleague.”

“Colleague?”

“You could also call it a friend.”

“Friend…”

For Lain, who already took down four of these so-called friends, her classmates looked very childish, all excited about a slime. She felt as though she was the only one who was climbing the stairs to adulthood, but she also did not feel bad about it.

“Well, I’m not taking care of some slime, so whoever wants to do it can do it.”

Lain then turned her head, showing no interest in the slime. Ririi on the other hand jumped down from the chair next to Lain’s, and ran to the slime.

“Bouncy, food.”

She said as she placed a sweet she had in her desk next to Bouncy. It was her favorite, that she was planning to eat during lunch, but the kind Ririi decided to offer it to Bouncy.

“Ririi, what’s that?”

“Ririh’s favorite sweet!”

“Bringing sweets is against the rules.”

“!?”

Ririi’s face was painted with despair, as Bouncy woke up and was drawn by the smell, and started eating the sweet.
