I was reincarnated on an island where the strongest species live, so I will enjoy a peaceful life on this island – Chapter 12 – Roasted meat party

Storage magic is useful. Now that I’m using it, I realize there must be a very big difference between those that can use it and those that can’t.

I’m sure people in this world have it easy, especially if something this useful is common here. And I have no doubt that everyone wants to be a mage.

“…Arata? How come you can use storage magic?”

Her eyes say it all. I’m sure it’s strange for her that someone with a foggy memory can use it.

“H-hahaha…”

“I’m going to have some questions for you later.”

I don’t think I can gloss over it anymore, and I just nod.

A lot happened today. We met Elga this morning, were attacked by an emperor boar, and then Tiltue invaded.

Those are all incredible things that I would never experience in my previous world, but if I think about them as things that set up this moment, they’re nothing but good memories.

We’re by the river, where we met Luna.

Reina brings out things she carries in her storage magic, and places emperor boar meat in her somewhat big barbecue set.

“This… Is crazy.”

“Yes… Really crazy…”

“Drool…”

“Gulp…”

This smell really stimulates the stomach.

Elga and I keep calling it crazy, and Luna and Tiltue keep drooling, as we silently listen to the meat being grilled.

“I thought wild game like boar would smell bad, but…”

“That’s ’cause our lady here is just that good. Once the blood was drained and everything was washed, the smell went away.”

Normally, salt or alcohol would be used for that, but there’s just too much meat. Instead, Reina used water magic to clean everything.

Preparation is the lifeline of cooking, is what Reina told me when she was cleaning, with an expression so serious it looked like it could kill, and I wasn’t about to disagree.

She really looks like a hunter, using wind magic here and there to chop the meat finely and fire magic to burn small hairs.

Tiltue runs to her, saying she wants to grill too, but retreats with tears in her eyes when Reina glares her down. I really get the feeling she’s the strongest when she’s cooking.

She’s beautiful like a princess in a fairy-tale, but I get the feeling that her life so far has been pretty harsh.

“Well then, it’s ready.”

“…!”

The moment Reina, who is wearing a red apron and not her white cloak, says this, we move in quickly.

Everyone moves their hands to snatch meat, but Elga’s the fastest.

He’s an adult divine beast, and I guess his physical abilities are the best among the people here.

But it looks like his timing is the same as mine, with my cheat body given by god, so our arms hit each other, and we stop.

“Tch! Not bad, Arata!”

“You’re not so bad yourself!”

And as if they were waiting for this opening, Tiltue and Luna strike.

“Fufufu, my meat!”

“Luna’s!”

They soak it in the sauce Luna brought, and open their mouths wide to stuff their cheeks.

They fill their mouths like squirrels, swallow, and after being quiet for a second…

““Taaaasty!””

They yell while not stopping their hands. Is that just instinct?

Elga and I look at each other, gulp, and basically declare a truce.

We divide the territory, and prioritize meat on each of our sides. If we don’t do this, these two little monsters will take everything.

“Ooh…”

I finally manage to get some emperor boar meat.

It was grilled thoroughly, but it’s still shining like gold.

It’s boar meat, but it’s fatty and of great quality. Obviously, it’s good too if I eat it with sauce like they did, but salt is the only option here!

“…Crazy.”

The moment I put the meat in my mouth, it’s like the fat melting on top of my tongue and the flavor of the meat itself explodes my entire body.

The impact running through my body makes me want to hit the ground as hard as I can, but if I did that now, I could very well blow away this entire area, so I stop myself.

“Taaaaaastttttttttyyyyyyyy!”

Elga’s so excited that I can’t even tell anymore if he’s screaming, howling, or just saying it’s tasty.

He’s eating skirt steak. It’s fattier than sirloin and lumpier, but his wildness probably responds to it even more.

And it’s a good idea to eat it with sauce, so he made the best choice.

“It’s so crispy and chewy. And so good!”

“This one’s softer, but good too!”

Say Tiltue and Luna.

What Tiltue is gulping down is probably meat from the neck. If you grill that part of the boar, it becomes crispy and elastic.

And Luna is eating leg meat. The muscles are firm, and it’s very easy to eat.

Both are also tasting the unique flavor of char-grilled meat.

But what I’ve been targeting is what Reina is grilling now. Something that each specimen has very little of. The incredible tenderloin!

It’s the softest meat in a boar, and its thick and pure taste stimulates the tongue like no other.

I don’t think the other three know about the greatness of the tenderloin yet, and I’m using that window to swipe…”

“No, Arata. Share it with everyone.”

“…Yes.”

Reina stops me with a big smile on her face, and I dejectedly split the tenderloin with everyone.

And then, the four of us yell at the sky at the same time.

“Good grief… Why can’t you eat more calmly? There’s more than enough for everyone.”

“Because there’s meat.”

“I really don’t understand… Hn, it’s good.”

Reina takes meat for herself while sounding exasperated, and she’s the only one to sound refined and cute.

My busy second day in this world is finally slowling down, as the sky is filled with stars and it gets dark around us.

Tiltue says she had fun and she’ll come again, while returning to where she lives. Then Luna and Elga also go back to the home of the divine beast people.

Elga also invites us to come to visit, but I think back to what happened with Reina earlier in the day, and I have to say no for now, because I can’t imagine she’d feel comfortable.

And so, I’m left here alone with Reina, as we take it easy by a fire in front of the tent.

“A lot happened today.”

“Hahaha… Yesterday as well, but today was something else.”

The crackling sounds of the fire feel comfortable, and Reina’s voice also feels calming.

“And…Thanks for today.”

I immediately understand that she’s talking about when Tiltue came, but I don’t feel that’s right.

“I caused that in the first place.”

“But still…”

“If you thank me for that, I have to thank you for everything. For the tasty meals today, and because you gave me a place to sleep.”

I asked to be reincarnated here to live alone, but I can’t be independent at all. At this rate, I’m not going to be able to live without her.

“Well, at least I’m glad my body is tough enough to live on this island, and I can protect you. If I couldn’t, I’d really just be in your way.”

“Protect me… Fufufu, I haven’t heard that in a long time. Lately people treat me more like a monster or a weapon.”

“Eh… Those people must not have eyes.”

Are there really so few guys out there that want to protect such a beautiful girl?

“That’s what being one of the seven great mages is like. I’m the seventh seat, meaning the lowest, but I’m still standing at an unattainable height from the point of view of the average mage. There’s little chance for other people to protect me.”

“I see.”

“So Arata, you’re the weird one. If the people we met on this island showed up in the continent, they would be a disaster that humanity as a whole would have to bet its existence fighting.

And it’s impossible for a human to be on par… Or more powerful than them.”

She says while looking at me with a serious expression, and I see some fear in it too. Could it be that I look like a monster in her eyes?

“I wasn’t going to ask, but… What are you, Arata?”

Reina is the first person I met in this world. And despite that being just two days ago, I already know she’s someone I can trust.

But should I really reveal everything and tell her I reincarnated here?

She’ll probably think I’m crazy. Or she might think I’m lying, and not trust me anymore.

“Well, it’s fine.”

The whole reason why I wanted to reincarnate on a deserted island was to avoid the difficulties of human relations anyway, so if that does happen, I’ll just be alone again.

Of course, Reina’s done so much for me, so I’ll protect her until she can leave this island, but that’s it. After that, I’ll take it easy here.

And something inside me makes me really not want to lie to this honest girl.

“Reina, I’m not originally from this world.”

And so, I tell her how I came to be here, and how I met god.
