I was reincarnated on an island where the strongest species live, so I will enjoy a peaceful life on this island – Chapter 13 – Fun and gentle days

Before I know it, it’s been a week since I arrived on this island.

Everything felt new at first, and I spent my days being perplexed a lot, but now I feel like I’ve gotten pretty used to life here.

“It’s all thanks to Reina.”

On my second day here, I told Reina everything, including how I reincarnated here.

Obviously I didn’t go into detail about me being a corporate drone and that sort of thing, but she believed me.

And she even said we’d keep working together.

She’s one of the best mages in the continent, and an S rank adventurer. This means she’s the perfect person to survive here in an untamed place, and she’s a great help in making life here pleasant.

This ‘strong body that won’t get sick or hurt’ really is perfect to survive on this island, but that alone doesn’t guarantee it will be pleasant.

It’s no exaggeration to say that’s all because of her.

“I really can’t thank her enough…”

“Arata, lunch is almost ready.”

“I’m coming.”

Reina calls me as I walk around the area near the tent to make sure there aren’t any dangerous monsters nearby, and I go back.

Even that big tent is something Reina brought.

It was made with a military group in mind, so there’s plenty of space even with the two of us inside.

She doesn’t think anything of it, because she’s been in adventurer parties that included men, and traveled with knights, but spending the night next to a girl as beautiful as Reina still isn’t good for my heart.

We’ve been sleeping in the same tent since the first day, but I’m honestly thinking it might be time to sleep in separate places.

That said, this tent being made with the military in mind means it’s strong against rain and wind.

This tent is the best thing we could ask for as far as a base goes for the time being, so we’re going to keep living in it together.

Apparently I’m the only one that minds anyway, so it’s fine if I just get a hold of myself. That’s what I keep telling myself every day.

“Mister, welcome back.”

“Hey, thanks for havin’ us.”

When I get back to the tent, lunch is already done and there are two familiar faces sitting at the table.

“Hi Luna. You’re here too, Elga?”

“It’s because Miss’ food is so good.”

“I’m here to escort this… Nah, I shouldn’t lie. I’m here for the good food.”

“Hahaha, so honest.”

I accidentally start laughing at the two divine beast people that have been here pretty much every day. Now that I think about it, it was Reina who broke the ice with these two too, with her food.

Her food actually is that good. She told me before that her master that taught her magic is really slovenly, but at the same time really picky when it comes to food.

And because of that, she kept steadily improving. When I asked about it, she told me his training was really tough too, so her survival skills also kept getting better. It brought tears to my eyes.

Reina says it’s thanks to her master that she became the youngest ever member of the seven great mages, but she never wants to see him again.

Reina is really nice, but when she talks about that master, her eyes are like a dead fish’s.

“Darling! Today I’m-here-too!”

“Ohfu!”

I’m tackled from behind with incredible force, and tilt forward.

This body is nearly invincible, but a tackle by a super powerful dragon like a Bahamut when I’m defenseless is at the very least going to make me lose my balance.

“Hey Tiltue. Full of energy as always, uh?”

“Yes! And you’re gallant as always, darling!”

“Thanks.”

I wouldn’t call the person I see in the mirror gallant, but I guess that’s how she sees me.

I didn’t work to get this charm or anything, so having all this love pushed on me honestly feels itchy.

“Will you be joining us for lunch, Tiltue?”

“Can I!?”

“You brought food the other day too, didn’t ya?”

Tiltue, Luna, and Elga have been bringing things from where they live when they come here.

I guess their pride won’t allow them to keep taking without giving anything back.

Elga and Luna have been bringing seasonings used by divine beast people, so that’s nice.

Reina has stuff like salt and sauces, but not an unlimited supply, and while I more or less know how to make them, I’m not fully there yet.

Elga and Luna are already sitting at the somewhat big table, and then Tiltue sits at the head of the table like it’s her birthday, and I sit facing Elga.

This is how we usually sit. And also…

“You guys really only sit still when it’s time to eat.”

Reina says with an exasperated smile, as she walks this way holding a pot with both hands.

Everything is ready, so Reina sits in front of Luna, and it’s time to eat.

Today’s lunch is a creamy stew. Reina has a large repertoire, so she’s been presenting us with something different every day.

Because of this, we never get tired of anything, and above all else, every meal is well seasoned and tasty.

““““Tastyyyy.”””

The natives of this island have an intense reaction as always.

The other day we had hamburger steak, and I guess Tiltue really liked it a lot, because she suddenly turned into a dragon and started flying around.

Are Luna and Elga going to transform one day too? I just hope they don’t break the tent or any tableware, but who knows.

After lunch, they teach us about the ecology of this island. And with the help of a map, they tell us where we shouldn’t go.

“So we really shouldn’t go to this area in the east.”

“Yes, ancient dragon and demon god youngsters are pretty rough. You’d probably be fine Arata, but it’d probably be dangerous for you, lady.”

“What if I smack everyone down?”

“Then you’re really going to be a loner dragon with no young friends forever.”

“…!?”

Says Elga, and Tiltue reacts strongly.

I’d feel sorry for her, so I won’t ask her to do anything unless it’s a last resort.

“What about high elves?”

“Ah… They’re pretty exclusive. They’re not just gonna attack, but I don’t know how they’ll react to a couple of humans either.”

“There’s the great spirit too, so you’ll be fine if the great spirit likes you, but…”

I guess every race has their own hierarchy.

For example, there are regular beast people in the divine beast people’s village, and the ancient dragons live with normal dragons too.

The elves’ place is ruled by high elves, but they also live with spirits, whose chief is the great spirit.

“Hm… So I guess we should visit the divine beast people’s home first?”

“Well, there I can tell them all ’bout you. If you bring something like, let’s say, emperor boar meat, we’ll welcome you.”

“Oh? But didn’t you say they’d be mad if Elga brought it home…”

“That’s if I bring something Arata hunted. If the person that hunted it brings it as a present, they’re not gonna say no.”

I guess it’s all about divine beast pride.

“But you can do what you want. It’s not like anyone can hurt you anyway.”

“Hahaha…”

I don’t mind going anywhere as long as I can live freely, but lately I’ve been wanting to see this whole island, since I reincarnated here anyway.

And I want to send Reina back home too.

She’s been doing nothing but help me since we got here.

I’ve never actually heard her say she wants to return to the continent, but unlike me and my invincible body, she’s a regular human. She’s never going to have a day when she can feel at ease on this island with beings that are so overwhelmingly stronger than her.

I actually asked Elga if there was any way to escape this divine island Arcadia. The answer was… No.

Apparently there’s a powerful barrier between this place and the outside world, and no one can leave. And only people with powerful enough magic energy can enter.

It’s said that the god of creation erected this island to keep beings that are too powerful away from the outside world. It hasn’t happened in the last few centuries but the story goes that monsters that rampage in the outside world are thrown in here.

And once in, no one can escape the divine island Arcadia.

It’s said that this place is what maintains the harmony outside, but that has nothing to do with me and Reina.

I don’t know how long it’ll take, but hearing that story cemented my goals.

First, live a slow life on this island while having fun like I am now.

The second, get Reina home safely.

And I’m going to work towards achieving those two goals.

“Geez Luna, you have stew on your face. Let me see.”

“Hn.”

“Luna is such a spoiled baby. Wait, if I do that, will my darling also wipe my face…?”

“Hey loner dragon, we can hear you.”

Well, I guess it’s no bad thing that I find myself thinking I want things to stay like this.

“Well then, my stomach’s full of tasty food, so let’s work hard again today!”

My life is nothing like when I was a corporate drone. It’s full of fun and gentle days.
