I was reincarnated on an island where the strongest species live, so I will enjoy a peaceful life on this island – Chapter 87 – Gentle day

Tiltue is sitting in front of a fire with Xellos, because Snow caught her and hugged her.

They don’t seem to have minded it, but it looks like Snow isn’t quite satisfied.

“It looks like she can control it with Reina, but she can’t really control her power with other people.”

“The one she calls mommy… In any case, I should thank you for looking after her.”

“You don’t need to thank me. We’ve also been having more fun ever since Snow arrived.”

I guess Snow still doesn’t see Merlin as a friend, because she’s not going near her.

But she’s also not going to mess with the other two near the fire either, and she’s just aimlessly walking around.

“If she could control her power just a little better, it would be easier for her to play with everyone.”

“You could just let her lick some Yggdrasil nectar.”

“Eh?”

“When great spirits are born, we learn control by first licking nectar of Yggdrasil”

“Really… By the way, why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

“I forgot. It happens once every thousand years, you know…”

She says, looking kind of awkward, but it actually makes sense.

Even if I lived that long, I can’t say for sure that I’d remember what happened a thousand years ago.

“So, where is that Yggdrasil nectar?”

“The elven village. Yggdrasil is protected by other great spirits.”

According to Miss Sheryl, it was originally the great spirits’ duty to protect it. But shortly after coming here along with Yggdrasil, with no enemies to be found, Mister Guen and Mister Giarth sought freedom and left.

“I see…”

Yes, I can’t see those two staying in one place as guardians.

“By the way, why did you leave?”

“Because I don’t like the other great spirits.”

“I-I see…”

Well, no matter how strong monsters are on this island, I can’t imagine any of them beating even one of the great spirits.

That means it’s clearly overkill to have them all protect it, so it makes sense that some would want to leave.

And somehow, I can picture the great spirits I haven’t met being serious people.

“They are not serious or anything, they are simply not flexible at all.”

She must really not like them, because it looks like her mood is taking a turn for the worse.

It’s at times like these that you have to show a child’s smile.

“Snow, come here.”

“Yes!”

I pick up Snow after she comes running, and pass her over to Miss Sheryl.

And just as I thought, she can’t maintain that displeased face in front of her, and her mood softens when she takes Snow.

“Snow, do you want to play with the others more?”

“Yes! With Tiltue and Katima and the others!”

“I see.”

Then we need to get that Yggdrasil nectar soon.

That’s what I think at least, but after warming up quite a bit, Tiltue walks over to me.

“Darling, do you want Yggdrasil nectar?”

“Ah, you heard us?”

“Yes… By the way, I have that.”

“Eh?”

“I heard it was tasty, so I nabbed… Received some.”

“You just said nabbed.”

“…”

She awkwardly looks away. So she did take it by force.

“Don’t mind that. The ones who had it taken are the ones in the wrong.”

“…Really?”

“Yes. Nevermind the elves, the great spirits over there don’t mind.”

So they’re okay with nectar being taken even though they have a duty to protect Yggdrasil?

I have my doubts, but if Miss Sheryl says so…

“Wait, ‘nevermind the elves’ doesn’t sound good.”

“It’s fine. They’re a stubborn bunch, so they won’t give it even when told to hand it over.”

“Eh…”

I don’t think it’s good to take something just because people don’t want to give it, but… Maybe that’s just how it is on this island.

Elga told me before that there’s some interaction between divine beast people and elves, so I was thinking about going to see them eventually, but maybe I guess it won’t be so soon.

“Are you sure about this? Isn’t it precious?”

“Sure. All I have is leftovers that aren’t that tasty anymore. I’m not gonna drink it anymore, so do what you want with it.”

“Okay, thanks Tiltue.”

“But in return…!”

Tiltue spreads her arms with a big smile on her face.

“I want a tight hug!”

“Hum, like this?”

I hug Tiltue tightly from the front like she says.

She’s small and pretty childish, but the softness and warmth of a girl still leaves me just a little bit nervous…

“Yes! Yes yes! This my darling’s hug, strong! I am very pleased!”

“I’m glad you are.”

“Mufuh. That puts me one step in the lead in the main wife wars.”

“Snow too!”

Snow looks on with jealousy, and suddenly hops down from Miss Sheryl’s arms.

And then, she keeps going and holds onto Tiltue’s leg.

“Gyu!”

“Pigyah!”

Tiltue lets out a scream that I wouldn’t be surprised if it reached the depths of the forest.

◇ ◇ ◇

“I-I will bring the Yggdrasil nectar, just wait patiently!”

Tiltue can’t afford to get any colder, so she heads home in a hurry, but soon comes back.

We let Snow have Yggdrasil nectar, and now she can control her power, meaning she can touch everyone.

“Yay!”

“Ooh, it really isn’t cold.”

Snow also looks like she’s enjoying herself more, because Xellos and the others are proactively playing with her instead of running away.

“Well then, I will be going.”

“Already?”

“Yes… Look after Snow.”

Miss Sheryl gently pats Snow one last time, and disappears into darkness.

Snow looks lonely, but as Miss Sheryl leaves, she promises to come by to visit her again, which brings a smile back on her face.

And since Snow played more than usual today, her battery runs out as the sun sets, and she falls asleep.

She really looks like an angel when she sleeps. Is what I think when I take her to bed.

“Daddy… It was fun…”

“Yes, it was a nice day.”

I can’t help but wish our days were always like this, as I pat her head.
