Night has come to the forest, but it doesn’t wither.
Instead, obviously, the forest is clad in darkness and visibility gets bad.
Because of this, I have to use a magic circle and rely on its light as Fuuma advances more slowly.
I could feel things out with Spatial Grasp as I advance, but I’d have to go in front. And while that would make us move a little faster, it’d take a lot out of me.
It would all be ruined if being tired led to me being attacked, so I decided to maintain this for now.
A light of a magic circle runs through the forest.
This light attracts something not good.
Bad visibility and a strong light in front makes something head towards it.
They’re like bugs swarming light, beings that are like formless ghosts.
These strange ghosts don’t have a set form, they appear like faint balls or in the form of monsters seen in the light.
It would be fine if these ghosts had no power, but here in The Abyss, even ghosts without a body have power.
Many ghosts control magic energy and use magic.
They fire faint blue fireballs, many ice arrows that rain from the air, and wind blades that follow the fireballs and act like a detonator that makes them explode.
The ground swells like a ripple, and once it gets close, an arm forms that tries to catch us.
I deflect with magic, nullify it with magic, and move around intensively to dodge, but the fact that we’re running slower means we can’t completely escape.
Then Fuuma uses magic too. A few wind spells other than air running.
Intense wind comes down from the sky, creating a down burst that generates a tornado that wipes out the ghosts.
But, suffice to say, that’s not enough.
They gather again and use magic again.
I don’t mind the magic attacks. I can deal with this much power. But they’re not going down. If I slash at them, the blade goes right through. If I attack with magic, I can repel them for a while, but it doesn’t seem to do more than that.
Them not having bodies is cheating.
I feel like complaining, but that won’t fix anything. I can handle it if they wither in the morning, but who knows when morning will come in The Abyss.
Meanwhile, the baby opens its eyes.
It doesn’t look bothered by the intense movements, and makes a happy kyuru sound.
It’s carefree, completely oblivious to how I feel.
I send a projectile slash to make ghosts up ahead retreat temporarily, allowing Fuuma to run and soar higher than the trees.
And I regret that. There are far more ghosts above the trees.
We could go even higher, but there’s no guarantee we’ll escape the ghosts, and the baby probably can’t withstand our moves.
There was never a choice.
We try to go back down, but it’s clear we have the other ghosts’ attention.
As a result, we attracted even more.
Is there something I can do?
We’re surrounded by many ghosts, and it’s easy to not get hit. If I didn’t have to mind the baby, it would be easy to break through. But if I was going to abandon it, I wouldn’t have picked it up.
“Limit Break.”
I control the ghosts’ magic energy and attack them to push them away, and generate a big tornado that sends them all flying.
Sadly, I don’t have the power to exorcise ghosts. So I have to rely on something else.
This is a bet.
I take the flower vase that generates water from the Storage Space, and infuse it with magic energy to create light water.
I let the wind carry it and spread it.
The magic wind with light water lights up the area around me as it falls on the ghosts and engulfs them.
The effect isn’t dramatic, but it’s there.
The ghosts hit by water seem to take damage, as smoke comes out of their incorporeal forms.
They didn’t go down, but I succeeded in making them retreat.
And that’s not all. The water makes trees and grass grow rapidly.
The grass quickly gets taller than me, and the trees grow bigger and thicker.
But more was hit by the water.
Lyuah!
The baby is excited after being hit by the light infused water.
It wasn’t a lot, but I look at it to see if it’s all right, and see its eyes shining.
I guess some monsters are damaged by this light water, and some aren’t. There has to be a common feature, but I don’t know what it is.
It doesn’t seem to affect the cow and the baby, but it damaged skeletons and the silver-haired guy I think is the baby’s parent.
I can’t test it on everything. Actually, I’ve tested it on almost nothing, but things that seem bad took damage.
At the very least, the baby seems to like it, so I’ll use it proactively. Surely that will keep things like that guy away.
I cut the grass with magic to advance, but see something and stop.
The impact rolled over the ground, and I see something I see in the supermarket a lot.
Carrots?
Why are there carrots there? I see potatoes too.
I wonder what that’s about as I take one and clean the dirt off it with water. I look at it closely, but it just looks like a carrot. But since it comes from the dungeon, I don’t know if it’s edible.
I offer it to Fuuma, and it doesn’t hesitate to take a bite.
Fuuma chews, and I watch it closely, but don’t see a problem.
I take another, clean it, and eat it.
Yes, carrot. A normal carrot. It’s a little on the sweet side.
I stop moving and get to work pulling them out of the ground.
