“Kyu!”
Hinata has been doing well lately.
It’s like it picked up on something, because its skill with the sword and magic have been drastically improving.
It’s been copying my moves, but it’s polishing its own style. It’s the same with magic, and it’s getting good at using wind magic just to aid its movements, and light magic to attack.
Its handling of magic is getting better, and it leaks less magic energy when it casts spells. Thanks to that, it’s been getting harder to detect its spells.
Light needles fall like rain to stab the whole area with nowhere to run. That would be the case for anyone except me and Fuuma.
I control the flow of magic energy, get through the rain by diverting it, and use Earth Magic to create a shelter.
The light rain explodes outside the shelter.
The impact is tremendous, and cracks the shelter.
“Kih!”
Dust rises, I move while unable to see very well, and a sword falls from the sky exactly where I am.
Not bad, I think as I stop it with the staff. I reach for Hinata, but grab nothing.
It probably predicted it because I’ve done it so much, so it used wind on itself to go up again.
Hinata’s hand shines.
I can’t dodge magic directly above, and so close. I raise the staff in my right hand, and leave my left in the air.
You got too careless.
“Kyu!?”
So I’ll fight magic with magic.
I control the rising dust, and turn Hinata’s hand away.
The magic fired from Hinata’s hand burns the ground, cuts down trees, and passes above Fuuma and Number Two.
That was close.
When did it grow that much?
There was the dust, and it controlled the ground to catch me, but something messed with my magic to dull my moves.
That something… was Totaro.
Hinata is growing rapidly, but it can’t control magic energy well enough to mess with mine. Fuuma and Totaro can, and the magic energy extended to the lake.
I look at the frog head peeking from the lake, like I’m asking what it’s doing.
“Gafu.”
It groans like it’s telling me to face Hinata a little longer.
Hinata will sneak attack me when it feels like it anyway, so there’s no need to make time.
Hinata runs from my magic, and comes at me with a sword.
I click my tongue and hold up the staff, blocking and deflecting sword strikes. I counter when Hinata’s posture breaks, but it surprisingly evades with wind.
That’s hard to do, but I remember doing it. It’s copying me.
Hinata is copying the techniques I learned by watching others do. It selects what’s best for it and continues to get better at it. That’s Hinata’s style, and it might surpass me one day.
That’s frustrating, but it makes me very happy.
Hinata being stronger means it can survive The Abyss, and increases the chances of escape.
Then I don’t feel jealous of its growth.
I dodge the sword, nullify magic, and go on the offensive. And I bury Hinata in the ground as its stamina is reaching its limit.
I mean that literally, buried from the neck down.
“Gyuuu!!”
Says Hinata trying to resist, and I snort.
The ground around Hinata has been strengthened with magic, so it won’t escape that easily. Even if its body is strengthened with magic, it doesn’t have the power to break the ground.
I’m not bullying it or anything. This is to further refine its Physical Strengthening.
Hinata has the body of a child, but incredible physical abilities and amount of magic energy. Back-to-back battles are the norm outside the forest, and the monsters there are a cut or two above. Not to mention the kaiju.
I want it to be at least strong enough to escape, so I started training its Physical Strengthening.
“Gyugyumugyuu!?”
It’s funny when Hinata gets worked up.
Fufu, I end up laughing.
Hinata doesn’t think it’s funny, and with a huffy expression, tries something else.
Judging by the flow of magic energy, it’s light magic.
I know it’s trying to break the ground, but I don’t think the earth hardened by Earth Magic will be destroyed. If anything, it might hurt itself in that tight space. Depending on the power of the magic, it might die.
Stop you idiot, I reach out to mess with its magic, and jump back because I have a bad feeling.
That bad feeling is correct, as a beam of light emerges from the ground where I was and rises to the sky.
That was Hinata’s doing.
Even light magic shouldn’t pierce mine. It’s possible, but only the light spears from the silver-haired guy.
A spell that passes through everything to attack only its target. Something I can’t copy.
“Kyu!”
Hinata snorts with a smug expression, most likely because I look surprised. But it’s buried in the ground.
I thought only the silver-haired guy could use that magic, but maybe it’s down to race.
That makes it even more likely that Hinata is the silver-haired guy’s child.
This… doesn’t change anything.
I had that feeling before, and if I was going to hesitate now, I wouldn’t have picked up Hinata to begin with.
It’s getting stronger, and it’d be bad if we were enemies, but I’ll think about it when it happens. At the very least, it’s kind enough to try to save people. We should be able to resolve things by talking, not fighting.
Right Hinata?
I smile as I approach Hinata, put my hand on the ground, and further harden the ground.
“Gyumuuuu!?!?”
It’s not like I’m pissed off by that smug face, I’m doing it out of love.
You understand, don’t you Hinata?
I smile, and release the magic because Hinata is firing magic randomly.
