I open my eyes, and see I’m in a pure white space. As I think that the room is the same in every dungeon, I reach towards the same panel I can operate.
‘Welcome, administrator.’
“Yes.”
A small winged person appears. Like a spirit or fairy from a fantasy novel. Its body is still half-transparent, like a hologram without a physical form.
But there has to be a reason why the form of the core changes in every dungeon. Let’s just take a photo.
‘I am the terminal AI that manages the dungeon, the dungeon core. You have three administrator keys, correct? Congratulations.’
“First, let’s permanently turn off the stampedes from this dungeon. You can send a notice.”
‘Affirmative. Executing… Stampedes have been turned off for the 525 dungeon. Please select the scope of the notice.’
“Scope…? What are my options?”
That wasn’t possible at level one or two. Maybe that was possible from the start, but how should I put this… It’s like the dungeon core is friendlier with each administrator level increase.
‘Confirming. There are three options.’
“Explain them in simple terms.”
‘Affirmative. First, a notice to everyone in the dungeon. Second, a notice to all the people in the dungeon and outside. Third, a notice to people in all dungeons and outside.’
“…Let’s go with three.”
There’s no reason to hide it. Let’s be bold about it.
‘Affirmative. Preparing…’
Preparing? I guess it’s a whole other scale when we’re dealing with the whole world, it might take some time. Also, if the notice is being sent to everyone, some will be fighting, cooking, or driving, but I think the notice will be sent to people who have never had anything to do with dungeons, even level ones and babies.
The notice might cause a lot of commotion out there, but since I can’t just send it to important people abroad, there’s nothing I can do but pray it doesn’t cause accidents.
“Next, activate the Linchpin System.”
‘Affirmative. Booting world map.’
A world map marked with locations of dungeons appears in front of me. The ones for Unlucky Hall and the 1086 Underwater Dungeon are still shining with a line connecting them.
The one for the Beginner Dungeon starts shining too.
‘Activated Linchpin System for this dungeon. Confirming, will the administrator connect this dungeon?’
“Yes, do it.”
‘Affirmative.’
The three dungeons are connected with lines on the map, creating a pointy triangle. Then the earth shakes violently.
“What!?”
‘Confirmed that the Linchpin System is operating normally. From now on, monsters cannot move between the inside and outside the barrier.’
Is that what the tremor was about?
“…Hn? Wait, does that include monsters tamed with skills?”
‘Confirming. Monsters outside of the dungeon system are not included.’
“Hum, so it only works for monsters that would burst out during a stampede?”
‘Affirmative.’
Okay, if Enki and the others, and especially Iris, were restricted, I’d have to ask for it to be lifted.
Next… This was sidestepped last time, so I should check if there are features I can now use.
“Question. Can I change the environment of floors?”
‘…Checking the history of changes to the environment performed by the administrator.’
Ooh, that was fast.
‘Invalid. It is impossible to change the environment of whole floors on this dungeon.’
“Hou…”
So what’s impossible hasn’t changed, but I heard something interesting. If you read between the lines, that means changing the environment of floors is decided by each dungeon, and the administrator can control some of them.
I don’t think I would’ve asked that question if I didn’t destroy the environment in the golem area of the second floor. It really is worth it to try different things.
“Question. Can I change the location of entrances and exits?”
‘Invalid. Administrator level too low.’
“Question. Can I swap floors?”
‘Invalid. Administrator level too low.’
“Question. Can I change the spawn rate of rare monsters?”
‘Invalid. Administrator level too low.’
“Question. Is it possible to make rare monsters appear as normal monsters?”
‘Invalid. Administrator level too low.’
“Question. Can people cause stampedes?”
‘Invalid. Administrator level too low.’
I thought it would work, but everything else turned out to be a dud.
What else can I check…
“Ah, that’s right. Is it possible to extend fever times?”
‘Confirming. What is fever time?’
Ah, that’s right, we named that.
“The one month period after a unique monster is defeated where monsters’ values are changed.”
‘Confirming. Henceforth, this system will be standardized as fever time for the administrator… You may select between two periods.’
Oh!?
“Specifically?”
‘Confirming. One month extension and indefinite extension.’
“Hn? I don’t understand why both exist. Question. Tell me the drawbacks to keeping the fever time active indefinitely.”
‘Affirmative. If fever time is extended, the unique bosses that activate this system will not appear during the extended time.’
“Ah, I see.”
That means no more battles with Kamui, Goblin Hero Gadaga, or Goblin Hero Gadogada.
The reward for fighting them is various skills and a lot of experience. And high rank equipment and items from treasure chests. If it’s extended indefinitely, those will be lost forever…
Well, the waist bag isn’t something I can just mass produce, or treasures. It would be dangerous.
Skills can be obtained in other dungeons, or I can compress them, and it means I won’t face those hollow shells again, right?
“…All right, pick the second extension. As for the notice… Go with the third option again.
‘Affirmative. It will be executed with the previous notice being prepared.’
This dungeon should stay comfortable. It’s hard to beat a boss every month too, and even harder to make someone else do it.
Well then, I’ve asked and done what I wanted, so it’s time to go back to the others.
