Level Gacha ~ It turns out the dump stat 『Luck』 is the most important – Roll 5 – A hundred goblin challenge

“…No good uh…”

It’s been an hour. It wasn’t easy finding goblins, partially because I’m not used to this dungeon, and partially because this one is popular. But still, I managed to take down a hundred goblins, which got me eleven levels, and allowed me to raise my Luck to eighty.

And yet, no rare monster related to goblins spawned.

“Is the whole taking down a hundred thing exclusive to slime? Or is it related to Luck, and a matter of probability? With this much Luck, there would be about a 90% chance that a slime would spawn, but are goblin rates different?

Could it be… Because I took down a different monster along the way?”

This is the first floor of a beginner dungeon, but there’s another monster here besides goblins. A horned rabbit called killer rabbit. People think it’s weak when they hear the word rabbit, but it’s tough enough that it’s said to be a wall for newbies.

It’s rare to see one, but they’re small and nimble, and they have enough force to leave a hole if their horns hit something not protected with armor.

Thankfully, Anyone with more than thirty Constitution will only get a scratch, although I don’t feel like testing that.

I fought one of those right after taking down my thirty-fourth goblin. I didn’t go after it or anything, it charged at me head first when I turned a corner and came across it.

It was sudden, so I fought back while holding back my surprise, and easily took it down.

I was ready for a strong enemy, but apparently it’s no match for my Physical Strengthening. But I wanted to avoid fighting them because I thought they might get in the way of my hundred chain… Accidents can be terrible.

“Anyway, I still have time, so I might as well try again. I just have to take down thirty-four more, so I think I’ll manage. Ah, but I don’t want to waste the levels, so I think I’ll roll the gacha.”

I follow the map into a dead-end, face the wall, and activate Level Gacha.

And then I press the ten spins button with no hesitation.

Clank clank clank.

This time, I get two red ones, and eight blue ones.

“I guess it’s lucky to get more red ones than the minimum stipulated… Does Luck help me here too?”

The odds aren’t listed, meaning I have no way to look into it. I guess I just have to rely on experience.

“Automatic Mapping sure is useful.”

With this new skill, if I chant ‘map’, a half transparent map screen appears in front of me, and it automatically maps places I’ve been to.

And it’s not just a map either, when monsters spawn, they’re displayed as red dots, and people are displayed as white dots.

Unfortunately, there’s no information about places I’ve yet to visit, but that won’t be a problem if I walk all over.

And with Appraisal now at level two, I can see my targets’ skills.

Not that extremely normal monsters like goblins have any.

“All right, that’s a hundred.”

With this map information in hand, I can focus on deserted places and hunt there.

I can also avoid accidents like that encounter with the killer rabbit, so I got to a hundred pretty easily. And I got seven more levels along the way too, and more Luck.

But then, something strange happens.

The last goblin’s body is covered in green smoke as always, but the smoke itself is moving in a clearly odd manner.

“What?”

Normally it would stop on top of the corpse, and disperse after a while, but it’s going up like it has a mind of its own.

And that’s not all. There’s more green smoke coming from the walls, floor, and ceiling of the cave, and it’s all being absorbed into it.

The smoke starts expanding as it all becomes one, and then flies deeper into the cave.

“Wha, wait!”

I chase after it, turn a corner, and end up in the empty dead-end where I rolled the gacha.

But now there’s even more smoke here, and it’s so concentrated that I can’t even see the wall.

I gulp as I watch it, until I see a giant hand stretch out from the smoke.

“Uwah!”

I immediately jump back, and as the smoke clears, a giant goblin that’s over two meters tall emerges.

“Guoooooh!”

I grimace at the cry that feels like it’s bursting my ears, and I use a skill

“A-Appraisal!”

Name: Hobgoblin

Level: 10

Equipment: Steel great sword

Skill: Super Strength

*****

“Haha, so this is the first level rare monster? The way it appears and its strength are completely different from slime.”

“Ooh!”

The moment the hobgoblin sees me, it charges at me and swings its great sword down.

I immediately feel my life is in danger, and dodge by jumping to the side.

Bam!

The sword doesn’t crack when it hits the ground, but the rock surface does. The aftershock it creates and the rocks cracked into pieces make me feel like I’m turning pale.

“If that attack hit me, I’d be dead for sure!”

“Oooh!”

Is it irritated because it failed to get me with the first attack? It doesn’t give up, and keeps swinging that sword.

But thankfully, Agility is my highest stat except for Luck. Meanwhile, the hobgoblin has both Physical Strength and a skill to complement it, but its movements are too simple and easy to predict.

“Sei!”

Woosh.

I dodge a few attacks, and deliver my first attack when I see an opening, but it only leaves a scratch.

The hobgoblin isn’t wearing armor, but its muscular skin is really tough.

“My Physical Strength has gone up quite a bit too, but I guess his Constitution is even higher. He’s only level ten, but it’s different enough to be sad.”

Its Constitution is so high, that I can barely scratch the surface.

But that doesn’t mean I’ll give up. Even if my attacks don’t really work, that doesn’t mean they don’t work at all.

Also, I’m the one who summoned this monster as an experiment. It would be terrible if I ran away while I still had a chance to win, and other people fell victim to it.

I summoned it, so I have a responsibility to deal with it as long as I can.

And as a result of my persistence, a strange thing happens. I keep attacking, and somehow, there are times when my attacks land just in the right places. When they do, they easily cut that body that feels like it’s made of steel, and cause deep wounds.

Those coincidences keep piling up, and eventually, the hobgoblin is covered in wounds.

“Gu… Ooh…”

Even if it has a strong skill like Super Strength, after recklessly flailing it around and getting hurt that badly, its stamina has to be reaching its limit. Its movements don’t have the life they had before.

My hit and run attacks continue for about ten minutes more, and the hobgoblin finally goes down, turning into smoke.

【Level up】

【Leveled up from six to eighteen】

“Ahh… I’m tired.”

My level shot up. I’ve never gotten so much experience all at once. I guess that’s just how strong it was.

But as I pour my SP into Luck like I always do, a thought crosses my mind.

“…Wait… Wouldn’t it be pretty bad if the next rare monster spawned?”

The hobgoblin’s body is still smoking in front of me.
