Walking in another world – Chapter 254 – Replication

I guess the experiment with Life Granting took longer than I thought, because someone comes here and says dinner is ready.

We exit the room and go down the stairs, and we’re surprised by the number of people here.

It seems the people having dinner are just as surprised to see us as we are to see them, because when we, strangers, show up, a murmur starts spreading.

“Well, it’s not every day we get people from the outside. If anyone tries to mess with you, tell me and I’ll show them what’s what!”

People around us shudder at the words of the manager.

After that, I finish my meal without really thinking about how it tasted. There’s so many people peeking over at us, that I can’t relax and focus on the food.

I think the same goes for everyone else… Hikari also finished her meal, and doesn’t seem to care about them, but I’m sure she feels the same as me. The manager apologizes to us, but it is what it is.

She says that if it goes on like this, she could take our food to our room, but we’re going to wait and see how it goes for a while.

When we go back to our room, Mia immediately goes to her sewing equipment to get to work on the doll.

“Do you have anything else to tell us about, like any new skills?”

Asks Rurika, and everyone’s eyes are on me, except for Mia’s.

“I also learned the Replication skill. I haven’t tried it out yet, but apparently it lets me make weapons and equipment with magic energy.”

“…That sounds amazing.”

Sera sounds kind of astonished, and Rurika and Chris nod a few times in agreement.

I take out a throwing knife, and chant Replication while looking at it.

Magic energy gathers in my right hand, and it slowly takes the form of a knife. By the time it fully turns into a knife, I feel a good amount of weight in my hand.

“I guess it’s like this.”

“Can I touch it?”

I hand the knife over to Rurika, and then Sera, Chris, and Hikari all have a turn checking it.

Ah, Hikari, don’t touch the blade. That’s dangerous.

I put the knife on a stand, and it vanishes after five minutes.

Then I try casting Replication again, this time using more magic energy. This one lasts about seven minutes.

“I guess the amount of magic energy used affects the time it lasts. Maybe it varies depending on the size of the item too.”

“But how good are the items?”

“Yes, I’m curious about that too.”

Hikari agrees with Sera.

“I can’t say until I actually try them. Also, I can only make things I’ve touched before.”

“Can you make stuff like knives with magic effects?”

“Probably, but it looks like it costs me a lot of magic energy.”

That’s the feeling I get from replicating a knife with a magic effect.

I’m actually checking my MP while responding to Rurika, and I see it did go down a lot. I feel like it will be mitigated by MP Consumption Reduction leveling up, and my overall MP going up as the Walking skill levels up. Speaking of Walking, the amount of steps needed to level up has increased dramatically, and it looks like it might be hard to level up going forward.

“It’s great that you can do that, but we need to test it thoroughly before you actually use it in battle.”

“Yes, like checking how tough the weapons are. There’s a training area in the guild here, but I don’t want to test this in a place where people can see it.”

“Then we’ll do it after we leave.”

Rurika’s words get me thinking about what we’ll do next.

We’re still waiting for a response about the laurel tree fruit, but at least our prospects are looking brighter. Conversely, we still don’t have any clues about Eris. If Drett’s letter is to be believed, we might find clues in Elesya, but…

“Well, that’s all for the skills I’ve learned.”

“I see. Then let’s take turns taking a bath, and go to sleep.”

And that’s what we do.

We could use purification magic in place of a bath, but letting ourselves soak in warm water does wonders for our exhaustion for some reason. I even let out a sigh for no particular reason.

I never used to care much for it in my old world. Is it because I value it more here?

“What about tomorrow?”

Rurika asks, when we’re fully ready to go to sleep.

I guess we have nothing to do until they contact us. And we can’t even go around stalls like Hikari loves to do.

“Let’s take a walk around the city. We’re here anyway, so we might as well take a break, even if I don’t think we’ll find anything interesting.”

Being in a hurry won’t get us anywhere in this situation.

Plus, this is a new city for us. Just walking around should be fun enough. It feels different from most other places too.

“Then how about we split into two groups tomorrow? Me, Sera, and Mia were talking about going to the adventurer guild to train. Chris can be Sora’s chaperon. What about you, Hikari?”

“…I want to exercise with big sister Mia.”

“Are you sure?”

Rurika asks, because she’s surprised by her answer, and Hikari nods.

Is it because there’s no food stalls?

“Well then, you should go to sleep soon too, Mia. It looks like Hikari is fired up, so it’ll probably be a tough day tomorrow.”

Mia just reached a stopping point with her work too, so she goes to bed.

Once the light of the lamp is gone, it suddenly gets quiet. Even if I focus, all I can hear is the sound of people breathing, including ones that seem to be asleep already.

I loosen up and let the bed have my body weight too, and eventually fall asleep.

But Parallel Thinking is hard at work tonight as well, so I can raise the proficiency of other skills.
