Walking in another world – Chapter 380 – Capital – Part one

After we’re done eating breakfast, we wait for a while, and Suiren is contacted.

Windsor has landed in a deserted area near the capital.

But apparently their operation is already underway, and there’s a lot of confusion in the capital.

We’ve gathered in a storehouse to use Transfer, because if we do this outside, some kids might run towards us.

Also, I’ve asked Suiren to leave the magic item mark here, so we can come back after things in the kingdom settle down.

“Be careful.”

“Naoto, please bring back Miharu.”

“Listen to Hikari. Please”

Kaede, Shun, and Kotori all talk to Naoto.

“Don’t overdo it. And please look after Rurika and Sera, and Chris.”

Says Eris, sounding worried, and Chris faces down with her face turning bright red. Did that embarrass her?

“Here we go.”

I feel like we’ll be here forever if I don’t say something, so I call out to everyone that’s going, and ask the ones that are staying to step away.

I can designate who’s going through Transfer, so they wouldn’t fly away with us anyway, but I’m still not used to this, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Once I activate Transfer, the first thing I see is the prompt asking where I want to go.

I pick the place near the capital of the Kingdom of Elesya, and it flashes in my mind, and I can see Windsor and a few other demons.

This didn’t happen before, but I guess it’s because I made more than one of those magic items.

I check if the others are ready, designate who’s going in my head, which makes a mark appear over their heads, and after doing a final check to see if everything is good, I activate the skill.

And in the blink of an eye, it’s done. Windsor is in front of me, standing in front of a nostalgic sight.

“I’m back here…”

Whispers Naoto, and I nod to myself.

“I think you heard, but there are beast people fighting in there. But they are with us.”

I take the magic item from Windsor, and a pendant.

“Hang these from your neck, and make sure they’re visible. You shouldn’t be attacked if you do.”

I guess he got those from the demons working with Ghido.

We equip those pendants, leave Windsor and the other demons, and follow the main road to the capital.

I check Map, and see we’re east of the capital. And if we followed the road in the other direction, it would take us to the empire.

“It feels nostalgic.”

Whispers Rurika.

This is the road they traveled when they came to Elesya for the first time.

As we follow the road and get closer, I feel like something is off.

There are usually multiple people guarding the entrance, but there’s only one gatekeeper today. And he doesn’t even notice us approaching, because his focus is inside the capital, not outside.

“Can we go in?”

I ask, and he jumps with surprise.

“I-I don’t think you should right now…”

The gatekeeper turns to the main street that leads to the castle, and starts explaining.

The capital is under attack by demons, but only the central section where nobles live. The sections where commoners live are unharmed.

Because of that, the commoners living close to the central section have evacuated to the outer areas, in large buildings like the adventurer guild, inns, or churches.

Windsor said the capital was in a state of confusion, but it’s surprisingly quiet.

“Aren’t you going to evacuate people to the outside and take down the demons?”

“Haha, no way. They’re demons. Knights are one thing, but guards like us can’t do a thing to them. And apparently the adventurers decided to sit this one out too. They’re on alert, but aren’t going to take the initiative to attack.”

Most high ranking adventurers were sent to the dark forest, so the ones left here are mostly low level. It sounds like they’ve decided that if they try to attack, they might end up just causing more damage.

And apparently this gatekeeper is here alone because the others are helping people evacuate.

“That’s why it’s dangerous to go in right now. If you’re passing through here to go to another town, you better just keep going and not stop. What are you going to do?”

He asks, and I lie, saying that we need to resupply.

He also doesn’t forget to check our identification despite the emergency, and after I pay for Hikari’s entry fee, we enter the capital.

“We need to get identification for Hikari too, once things settle down.”

We got it from Leila, but it hasn’t been registered, so we can’t use it yet.

We enter the city, and avoid the main street.

We need to cross the one gate that leads inside the central section, before we go to the castle, so that’s our first destination.

I bring out Map while walking, and check for people near the gate.
