Walking in another world – Chapter 772 – Avid dungeon – Part thirty-seven

I’m using Transfer to get behind the polyopus.

Over half of its head is missing, so I’m surprised I’m still picking up the reaction of a living being. Normally monsters don’t stay alive after so much damage, even if the magic stone is okay.

Maybe it’s because it’s a dungeon boss, or maybe because it specialized in super regeneration.

“Hot.”

I’ve deployed a shield around me, but it’s still hot.

I can’t bear it, and infuse myself with water type magic. It’s more magic energy I have to spend, but I have to. Also, this will fail if I take too long.

I’m focusing on the magic stone moving around in its body.

“…Here!”

I think as I swing my sword, and miss.

The magic stone moved like it was dodging me. I felt it when I swung.

Polyopus’ body is elastic on the inside, and that slowed my momentum and threw off my timing when I swing.

I rely on Memory to remember the movements of the magic stone. Are they regular, or random?

It’s moving away from the center of the body. There was probably a magic stone there initially, and it left that area to avoid getting caught up.

But it doesn’t seem to be moving randomly. It’s moving counter-clockwise, as seen from the front.

At a certain point, it changes and moves clockwise.

I follow the magic stone and attack it. This one is more of a thrust, concentrating power in one spot.

I focus magic energy on the tip of the mithril sword, and strengthen it with a skill. Once, twice, thrice the mithril sword is strengthened.

Its durability will drop once the skill’s effect runs out, but I can repair it.

I got mithril too, so I’m not hurting for materials.

I feel the heat as I focus more.

………

……

…There!

I use a Swordmaster thrusting skill, boosting my power and speed.

The tip pierces the polyopus and goes for the magic stone like it’s being sucked into it. It hits the magic stone that’s regenerating and has become larger… and shatters it.

The polyopus’ body is burned by the remaining flames and crumbles.

I watch it as I use Transfer to move away from the flames.

Two minutes later, the spirit magic unleashed by Chris dies down completely.

“Is it over?”

Asks Rurika with twin swords in hand.

“Yes, the battle with the polyopus.”

I say while looking around with caution just in case.

If another monster comes if enough time passes, it won’t be over yet… Or will they stop coming if we defeat one before the next one spawns.

But then…

“Master, there!”

Hikari finds something.

It’s a treasure chest that’s far from us all of a sudden.

By using Memory, I remember that’s where the polyopus spawned. But there was no treasure chest there before.

“Is this a reward?”

“Does that mean it’s over?”

Ask Argo and Guilford.

Five minutes later, nothing else comes.

“…Let’s try opening it.”

No one objects.

“Hikari, please.”

Says Rurika, and Hikari kneels in front of it after a nod.

It’s just a plain wooden box, and I wouldn’t expect much if I were to judge it from its appearance. If it was just sitting in a passage of the dungeon, I wouldn’t have any expectations, but this came after the defeat of a boss.

With a clack, the box is opened slowly.

Everyone’s eyes focus on the inside, mine included of course, but I remain cautious.

It’s not just me, Hikari, Rurika, and Guilford and the others are cautious.

“There’s a lot…”

There really is a lot inside the box, including things clearly bigger than it.

Hikari takes them out one by one, and her excitement goes down.

It’s not that the things are bad, there’s just no meat in it.

But what we do get is a magic spear, a holy dagger, a wristband that boosts power and agility, mithril, and many jewels.

The magic spear has ice power, and by using magic energy, it can freeze the ground, among other things. It can also rob opponents of their heat when stabbed into them, dulling their moves.

The holy dagger uses the user’s magic energy to boost natural healing, but its thoughtful design means its effect will stop if MP falls below a certain level.

If MP won’t fall to zero, there’s no worry about running out of it and feeling the effects. And it can be used by people with no skills to control magic energy, like Magic Energy Control.

“I think we can leave after splitting the items.”

Says Argo after hearing my descriptions.

The appearance of the treasure chest probably means there won’t be more monsters, but it’s still hard to relax here.

I put the equipment in the Item Box, take the jewels that were put in a bag, and we leave the boss room.
