When I wake up, I’m surprised by what I see in the barrel.
The wool clothes are tinged with luster, and give off a refreshing air. They feel stronger, and the flow of magic energy is way better.
I give it a try, imagining a sword as I infuse magic energy, and make a pure white sword.
This is like what Maya Seijyu did. Or something similar.
I try to create other shapes, and it changes shape faster than before.
Hm, I can’t use this. It’s too bad, but I can’t.
It’s nice that it’s sturdier and offers better defense, but changing shape faster isn’t that helpful.
It would be useful on the first few floors, but changing its shape into a weapon won’t deal damage to monsters in The Abyss. It’s better to focus it all on defense.
That said, having more options is nice. I might use it if it comes to that.
We run through the darkness, spreading light water to ward off ghosts.
But that also means vegetation grows in an abnormal way where we pass, serving as a mark for where we passed.
I take mappingool from my hat and check it.
The camera is built into the hat, so it has to be there. It’d be nice if it was wireless, but it’s good enough for a prototype.
I check the footage and advance straight forward. It’s showing an impossible distance traveled, but that doesn’t matter anymore.
I want to go back up already. That’s all.
We keep on running, and the world turns monochrome.
It’s like when I picked up the baby.
I think about stopping, but this time the world turns dark again soon.
And the nearby giant trees start shaking violently.
I have a bad feeling, and tell Fuuma to go faster as I draw the longsword and use Limit Break.
Then there’s a change. The giant trees around us start moving, and attack with branches and vines.
I exhale and send out several projectile slashes to cut vines and branches and open a path. They’re also coming from the side, but are left behind because their slow moves won’t catch Fuuma.
But those aren’t the only trees attacking, more up ahead move.
Still, vines and branches without magic energy aren’t that much of a threat. If they use their numbers, I’ll respond in kind.
I send wind blades all around, and projectile slashes in front to cut open a path.
That’s enough to cut the trees as we go.
It’s a terrible display of natural destruction, but this is the dungeon, so it shouldn’t be a problem like on the surface.
As we advance, another change happens.
The trees that shouldn’t have magic energy are infused with it. It’s still not hard to cut them down, but when ghosts get involved, it becomes annoying.
I can ward them off with light water, but the water powers up the trees that come to attack.
Both are annoying, but something worse appears.
It looks like an old person with a bent back, but it has two big horns on its head, and a gray staff on its right hand.
It’s wearing rags, and its decrepit body is exuding magic energy that doesn’t suit it.
I don’t want to fight that in this situation.
I tell Fuuma to run, but the horned old oni thrusts its spear on the ground, and a ripple spreads.
Vines stretch around us and close us in.
But that’s not enough to keep us locked.
I cut open an exit with the longsword, and widen it with wind blades. But more vines close it.
I kneed magic to destroy it all, and get a bad feeling from above.
I send a projectile slash above me, where the old person oni is suddenly approaching.
It swings the staff and activates magic faster than the projectile slash.
It’s a wave of magic energy.
It erases the projectile slash and reaches us as its momentum increases.
I create a flow of magic energy to ward it off, but it even eats that, turning it into part of the wave.
This is bad, I think as I bend over and cover the baby.
The wave of magic energy passes through my body, and the magic energy in me starts violently rampaging.
I vomit blood and focus on Magic Energy Control to normalize it, and use Parallel Thinking to use Heal Magic at the same time to heal me and Fuuma.
Fuuma also took damage and seems to be in a bad state. At least the baby is fine.
After a quick heal I try to get away, but I’m attacked with another magic energy wave.
I quickly take the magic mirror shield from the Storage Space and hold it up, and nullify it as I feel intense vibrations on my arm.
I immediately counter with many wind blades. I figure it will erase them too, but this time it doesn’t, and instead flies away from the vines.
I take the opportunity to leave the baby with Fuuma. I can’t fight that while protecting it.
Fuuma nods, I strap the baby to its back, and cut away the vines to face the oni.
It’s scary how I can’t see what it looks like because of the dark.
I could use a magic circle to illuminate the area, but since I’m facing that, I can’t afford the effort.
Thankfully, I have Spatial Grasp. I can pinpoint where it is and read its flow of magic energy.
But there’s a problem. Spatial Grasp is also picking up a whole lot of ghosts.
“Limit Break Burst.”
I use this move designed for a quick kill, control the magic energy around the ghosts, and attack with magic. Unfortunately, I can’t take down these ghosts with no physical form, but I can neutralize them for a while.
I close the distance with the old person oni in an instant, swinging horizontally as fast as I can to finish it in one hit.
This attack wouldn’t allow for even a reaction from a regular opponent. But this old person oni doesn’t react like a normal monster.
It swings the gray staff at the longsword, bends its back even more, and deflects the attack.
It then points the staff at my chest as I’m wide open, like it’s saying it’s its turn.
A ball is fired from the staff, but it’s transparent magic with a frightening amount of magic energy.
I jump back and use the magic mirror shield to nullify it, but it explodes violently the moment they touch.
There’s a roar, and I’m blown away while mowing down trees.
I thank my body for not being minced, and control the wool clothes to stick to nearby trees and kill the momentum.
I said I wasn’t going to use this, and used it right away. I can use these clothes.
With that in my mind, I turn the clothes back and jump to the side.
The old person oni swings its staff where I was and hits the ground, destroying it.
It looks like a mage, but is sharp at close range.
