Walking in another world – Chapter 770 – Avid dungeon – Part thirty-five

Rurika’s point of view.

Our party gathers, except Sora, and we attack the polyopus.

There are seven gross tentacles moving in front of us. But I’m strangely calm.

I feel safe. Of course, I feel the same way with Argo and the others, but fighting with people I’m used to really does make me relax in a good way.

I swing my swords, and while I can’t see the others, I feel like I just know where everyone is in this place. And so, I make the best choices and swing my twin swords.

Of course, I can’t get careless just because someone will cover for me. I think about the worst case scenario as I attack. You never know what might happen in a battle.

The movement from the tentacles changes quickly too. They might even do something I haven’t seen yet, like suddenly defending when I think they’re attacking. Or the opposite.

I infuse magic energy as I swing the mithril swords, but can’t really attack the tentacles.

Hm, I’m causing damage, but it soon regenerates.

But I keep swinging, because I know it doesn’t regenerate for free.

It’s not just the polyopus, other monsters share this trait. They have to pay something when they use some sort of power.

A tentacle that’s fighting us suddenly turns towards Sora, and three gather in front of him.

Is he all right facing three!?

Normally I would be worried, but somehow I imagine he’ll get through it.

So this is a good opportunity, and I evade the tentacle in front of me to go attack the main body.

That’s the most beneficial thing I can do for Sora too.

I turn towards Chris, and she nods.

I can see out of the corner of my eye flames gathering at the tip of her staff, and a fire ball being launched.

It’s headed towards polyopus’ main body, but it reacts by stretching a tentacle towards it, and the fire ball dissipates just before it hits the main body.

The tentacle did its job blocking magic and tries to go back to facing us, but Chris fires magic again.

The tentacle stretches again towards the magic, and it disappears again.

Chris’ magic is being completely blocked and won’t reach polyopus, but she’s well aware of that.

The goal is to make it have to deal with the magic. And thanks to that, the six tentacles are now five.

They are the ones that use darkness and ice breath, the one that turns into metal, the one that stretches, and the magic eye one.

The two breath ones aren’t that much of a threat, but the other three are. The metal one and the stretchy one are the worst for someone attacking physically like me, especially the latter.

Sera can just barely deal with the metal one because her blows are so strong, but I don’t know how to deal with the stretchy one.

Does it have to be magic?

At this point, I shake my head.

I don’t need to defeat the tentacles. They’ll keep regenerating, so no matter how many times they go down, it won’t be fatal for the polyopus.

It does wear it down, but we have to damage the main body to defeat it.

And yet, we haven’t been able to attack its main body so far.

I tried using Gale to go after it, but it used the stretchy tentacle to block me just in time.

I’ve been trying to hit it, but it’s perceptive, and every time I’m about to use it, it uses its tentacles to deal with me.

But we might be able to find an opening to deal damage if we all attack together.

I exhale and compose my breathing, avoid the ice breath, and go forward.

My target is the tentacle attacking me.

I step forward and slash it. The first swing cuts it, and the next goes even deeper, making it fall silent.

The cut tentacle falls and twitches on the ground, and a Projectile Slash from Hikari completely stops it.

These tentacles have a weak point, or a weak moment, when they perform their special attacks. Although that doesn’t go for every tentacle.

I look at the tentacle that blocked magic and the one hit by Sera, and turn towards the next ones.

The stretchy one, the magic eye one, and the darkness breath ones are left. Mia is handling the last one, Hikari is drawing the attention of the magic eye one, and the stretchy one is attacking randomly.

Sometimes it targets Chris, but Hikari blocks it with Projectile Slashes. That’s our Hikari, I think as I join in.

I want to target the magic eye one, but the stretchy one is preventing me from moving freely.

Just stretching isn’t strong by itself, but being able to move all over the battlefield and chase us everywhere is really troublesome. In a way, it’s the worst enemy of someone in the back row like Chris.

It doesn’t have a limited range, so it can reach Chris if it stretches.

I deflect it with my twin swords, and wait for an opportunity to strike the body.
