I’m unemployed but I’m exploring the dungeon again today – Chapter 118 – ~Hundred and eighty day – Part two

It’s nice that I ran away in the darkness, but now I don’t know where I am.

I told Fuuma to stop crying and I’d give it food, and it immediately stopped. Is it really that much of a glutton? It’s actually impressive.

But are all summoned beasts like this?

The army horse the armored hobgoblin was riding was a normal horse. Maybe it acted weird when I wasn’t around, but I can’t imagine it was this weird.

Fuuma ate my soup filled with ingredients, and after looking very satisfied, is now sleeping with a full stomach.

…I haven’t eaten horse meat sashimi in a long time.

Fuuma trembles and jumps to its feet. Its heavy body gets on a ready stance as it looks around cautiously.

It looks nervous, but then sees there’s nothing, and tilts its head.

What a strange summoned beast, I think as I munch on reheated bread.

◇ ◇ ◇

The next morning, after a light breakfast, I get on Fuuma and continue exploring.

Thankfully, we weren’t attacked at night, so I slept… not so well.

Fuuma entered the tent to sleep there like it was normal. That alone wouldn’t be too bad, because it might be dangerous outside.

The real problem was that it kept turning in its sleep and grinding its teeth loudly.

It was sleeping next to me, but it kept moving its legs like it was dreaming of running. It kicked me and made teeth grinding noises right next to my ear. It was terrible.

Eventually I bound it, and it stayed asleep.

How dull are your nerves?

I keep dozing off while riding Fuuma, but thankfully it sticks to the path.

As I wonder what path we should take to go back, Fuuma runs on its own. It runs strongly with no hesitation, like it knows the way back.

It’s like it’s telling me to leave it to it.

Good job Fuuma. If the way back is here, I should be back on schedule.

And we reach the thirty-third floor.

That’s what I figured.

I did, I figured this would happen.

Fuuma ran wildly, using magic to accelerate, and when I saw the staircase to the thirty-third floor I told it to wait, but it wouldn’t listen.

It’s still running fast even after we reached the thirty-third floor, with no sign of stopping, so I jump and roll on the ground.

My whole body is hit hard and I take considerable damage as my life flashes before my eyes, but I heal myself with magic.

Anyone else would’ve died. That was no joke.

After trying hard to recover, I leave Fuuma, and turn around to go back.

I can’t even see it anymore, and I have no idea where it went. It must be dashing straight ahead, but it looks like the path splits in two directions, and I have no idea which it took.

I stagger back to the thirty-second floor, when I hear a sad mhe~ above me.

I look up thinking it’s a monster attack, and see a large bird holding Fuuma.

It’s called a sky fighting fowl. It looks like a chicken but ten times the size.

It doesn’t fly that fast, but it uses wind magic and fights like a fighting rooster on the ground.

Apparently its meat is really tasty, and when a chicken meat stand serves it, its customers tend to double.

And it caught Fuuma as prey.

I swallow saliva and go save Fuuma, I guess.

It’s not like it’s because the meat must be tasty, a real delicacy, or anything like that. I just want to save Fuuma.

I wipe my drool hard, use Earth Magic where I’m standing to shoot myself like a cannon, and fly towards the chicken meat.

◇ ◇ ◇

Fighting a sky fighting fowl in the air is pretty thrilling.

Both of us can use Wind Magic, so I figured it would turn into a long range magic battle, but no.

It covers itself in a layer of wind, accelerates, and makes use of its big body to tackle me.

I do my best to dodge, propelling myself with wind from above, and it turns to come after me again.

I’m not too good with Wind Magic yet. I can use it to a certain degree thanks to Magic Energy Control, but it’s rough compared to the sky fighting fowl.

I try a wind blade, but it’s easily dodged, so I have to take it to the ground.

I do nothing as I start to fall, and let gravity do its thing.

The monster comes after me, which is what I want.

Fuuma is unconscious, but that’s good, because it’d be bad if it was struggling.

As we get closer to the ground, I create a whirlpool to change direction and fly parallel to the ground.

This is how Fuuma was flying yesterday. I haven’t practiced it, but I’m glad it went well.

I changed direction at a right angle, so I figured it would crash to the ground, but no.

The sky fighting fowl uses wind freely. It spreads its wings wide, and creates wind to brake on the spot. And then it comes at me like a bullet.

I knew it wouldn’t be that easy.

But it’s good that it’s close to the ground.

It comes charging at me, and I pierce it with stone stakes. The wind covering it gets in the way, so it blocks some, but others stab its body.

It takes damage, and falls to the ground.

Fuuma is also dropped, but the grass cushions its fall, and it’s unharmed.

I face the sky fighting fowl on the ground.

Being on the ground doesn’t make it weak. In fact, it might be better at fighting up close.

Still, it’s no match for me here.

The sky fighting fowl is wounded, but still just as willing to fight. But I attack it one-sidedly with Earth Magic, and cut off its head with my greatsword when it’s weak.

It tried to counterattack, but its wind magic is a bad match for my Earth Magic. I could shelter myself from any of its attacks.

Also, being invisible doesn’t fool my Spatial Grasp. Close combat isn’t a problem either as long as you don’t let it get too close.

So this is the sky fighting fowl they say is a delicacy, I think as I wipe drool, and then wonder how to drain its blood.

I feel like I’m forgetting something, but I wouldn’t have forgotten if it was important.

I create a ring of stone with Earth Magic to secure its legs, and then hang it upside down. And blood comes pouring from the neck.

It’s pretty grotesque, but I guess it’s nothing compared to what I’ve seen, so it doesn’t shake me.

It’s a little worrying that my mind is straying away from the normal modern day person’s, but I’m sure it goes for all seekers. It can’t be just me.

The Dismantling skill tells me what to do next.

I need a lot of water and some hot water, and I need to remove its innards quickly. But all I have is drinking and cooking water, which I can’t waste.

And so, it goes into the Storage Space. I’ll prepare it when the time is right.

With that done, I turn around to leave, and hear the bushes nearby shaking.

Another monster? I ready myself, but then I see the small horse Fuuma.

It comes out of the bushes, and looks around fearfully.

It looks worried. It might be traumatized after its sky trip with the sky fighting fowl.

I cast Healing Magic on the wound covered Fuuma like I’m telling it to get over it.

I pet its head, telling it to forget about it and let’s be friends, and it happily squints. And then it bites my hand.

Ouch!?

What was that for!?

Let me go, damn horse!

I took off my gauntlets because I was going to take the monster apart. It bites down and takes me to the grass.

What, you wanna eat me!?

I thought it was a vegetarian, but it’s an omnivore. If it eats people too, that’s scary.

I summoned it, so I should take responsibility and end it by my own hand.

I control magic energy, and get ready to make the earth rise in an instant… but I see a treasure chest in the grass.

Eh!? Did you pull me here to show me this?

I ask, and it happily nods.

It’s a glutton, fat, an idiot, and small, but it found me a treasure chest…

…I believed in you.

I knew Fuuma could do it if it tried. I knew it could achieve something big.

It pulled my hand strongly, but it didn’t hurt much. Just a few broken bones, no big deal.

I heal the hand I can’t move with Healing Magic, and reach for the treasure chest.

I touch the treasure chest, and I’m relieved when a trap doesn’t trigger.

I open it, and see a scarf.

It’s made of yellow cloth, and has a magic circle made of golden thread.

It feels like it has a special effect, so I put it in the Storage Magic instead of wearing it now. I learned from that time I put on a thirty million yen necklace and couldn’t take it off.

Now let’s go back, I think as Fuuma signals for me to get on it.

I have a kind of bad feeling about it, but let’s trust it again.

Fuuma panics the moment we hit the road and it sees a sky fighting fowl, creates a tornado like Bazoom, and we’re thrown into the air.

It takes five days since we entered the dungeon to return to the surface.
