The mountain erupted.
Hey! Why the hell did you fire at the mountain!?
Because it’s there?
The mountain isn’t a target! You’re just trying to compete with that silver haired guy, aren’t you!?
Don’t take your frustration out on things! You caused a disaster!
It looks like Fuuma feels competitive towards that thing I think is a demon.
It must have tried that as a way to counter the power of that last light spear he threw, but it was a mistake.
That magic that disappeared a mountain wasn’t just the power of the light spear, it was also the magic energy remaining in the corpse of the bear monster.
That demon couldn’t have easily wielded that much power. If that was the case, we wouldn’t be alive.
Only monstrosities like that sea turtle or the giant snake can do that. I feel like that giant eyeball monster could do it too, but maybe not.
We run to the sky to escape the pyroclastic flow.
If we just ran normally, it would catch up to us. The geography doesn’t help. Also, more mountains are erupting, not just the one Fuuma hit.
The previously blue and white sky is now half engulfed in red and brown, and the white snow keeps losing territory.
The sky is painted in a lead color, and the mystical sight that scared me before has turned into a violent one where I can feel it pulsating with life.
The pyroclastic flow is rising all over, and when we’re left with nowhere to run to, Fuuma creates a barrier and I use Wind Magic to move us as far away as we can.
The pyroclastic flow moves like it’s alive.
It’s the power of nature, much scarier than monsters.
A lead colored something jumps out of it.
It looks like a flying fish, the color of red hot rock, with lava on its tail and fins.
This flying fish monster swims in the pyroclastic flow, takes a big jump, shakes its fins and tail violently, and lava flies out.
Not a lot of lava flies, but it grows until it fills my vision on its way to me.
I’m impressed, casually feeling lava is hot and getting ready. I infuse my greatsword of fortitude with magic energy with a bad feeling that there are a lot of monsters, and shoot a projectile slash.
It cuts through the lava and smashes a flying fish, ending it and making it disappear inside the pyroclastic flow.
It would be nice if that was it, but more jump out. There are a lot, and I assume they move in schools.
Still, they look cute compared to the snow monsters.
Those were huge and moved in blizzards, not to mention those destructive beams. And each crystal was a core, making them very difficult because I’d have to destroy them all at once.
The flying fish on the other hand attack with lava, and can be beaten with physical attacks.
Easy.
I send out projectile slashes to crush them, and Fuuma uses wind enveloped chakram.
I feel invincible for the first time in a while.
They fire lava every time they jump, but Fuuma isn’t slow enough for that to hit. It has high mobility as it flies, and it easily puts distance between us and the pyroclastic flow.
So I can rest easy and take them down.
Even if a giant octopus started chasing the flying fish.
Fuuma’s mobility means it can easily dodge, dodge, dodge, and get surrounded.
I didn’t get carried away.
The way it moves with Wind Magic is legit, and its ability is pretty refined.
Still, there are just too many monsters.
Pyroclastic flow soars, bringing death ash and reaching temperatures of a thousand degrees.
And vicious fish monsters see that as a sea and swim towards us.
It’s there as far as the eye can see.
Between the snowy mountains and this, there’s nowhere to run.
I try creating an intense wind centered on us to blow us away, but the monsters controlling the pyroclastic flow means it only takes us back a little.
Flying fish monsters jump out, and a giant octopus monster with a solid body like boulders chases them. There are many more beings you’d think lived in the sea, with special mention to an orca whose body is composed of iron and lava.
Honestly, I can’t fight while swallowed in pyroclastic flow. It’s okay while in the barrier of the perpetual spring scarf, but I’ll be roasted the moment it doesn’t protect me. I’d have to fight while constantly using Healing Magic.
The barrier is only strong enough to withstand one attack, so I can’t rely on it. I wondered if I couldn’t control the pyroclastic flow with Earth Magic, but sadly, something else has the reins.
So we keep controlling wind and moving around so the pyroclastic flow doesn’t get near us.
I leave the movement to Fuuma and focus on the monsters.
I hold the pyroclastic flow back with magic, dodge the attacks of the monsters, and cut them with the greatsword of fortitude
They attack with lava, throwing many rocks, and tackles. I think there’s magic or something that makes me draw closer, but it disappears when I send a projectile slash in the direction of the magic energy. If it drew me into the pyroclastic flow, it could be really dangerous.
I put down many monsters.
I’m invincible, easy, I thought, but this is just like the snowy mountain, or maybe more dangerous.
There’s the sheer number of monsters, but I’m also losing the ability to hold back the pyroclastic flow.
I think that’s what’s leading to the number of monsters increasing, and I can’t put them all down.
I’m thinking I have to brace for damage and jump into the pyroclastic flow to get away, but a destructive light cuts through it towards me.
I just barely avoid it, and cut a tentacle of the octopus that’s reaching for me where I end up.
I can see just a little through the hole opened in the pyroclastic flow.
There are the remaining snow omu monsters, firing the destructive light.
The hole closes, but it’s pierced again as they try to kill me.
But their aim is poor because they can’t see me, so most hit other monsters and blow away pyroclastic flow.
It’s not on purpose, but it’s helping me.
I jump into the path they opened in the pyroclastic flow, and escape.
Fuuma neighs and gets enveloped in a golden light, and deploys its chakram to create a flow of magic energy. It controls the destructive beams being fired, and guides them towards the monsters.
There are explosions around us, making pyroclastic flow move.
Yahoo. We made it past the sea of pyroclastic flow, and I feel a great sense of liberation… Or I would have felt that if I wasn’t in awe of what I see.
Behind me is a hellish volcanic area.
In front of me is a world painted white because of the blizzard, like a hellish snow world.
It’s like both are fighting.
Could it be that Fuuma’s magic didn’t trigger the eruption, and it’s just how this world is?
Well, my thoughts on it don’t matter, monsters attack anyway.
But they don’t just attack me, a fight between volcanic and snow monsters breaks out.
Are they territorial? Are they just mortal enemies? I don’t know, but I welcome a fight between monsters.
If I can use this opportunity to get away, it will all be good for me.
But then something appears from the blizzard world that exudes an intense pressure.
Its size rivals the sea turtle monster.
It has a head like a fly, eight limbs, and it’s holding four scythes. Despite having the face of a fly, its wings are like those of a beetle. It’s a twisted beetle monster.
It makes a sound as it stretches its wings, the blizzard gets stronger, and it swallows the volcanic world.
The pyroclastic flow disappears, the swimming monsters are frozen, and they shatter when they hit the ground.
This monster that devoured that world with one attack flaps its wings faster as it advances.
